Thread: My new mat first missions

Default My new mat first missions

My new Deepcut Studio Aerial Battlefield mat arrived last week and Windy Jack and I flew our first missions on it last night. We selected Recon as there seems to be a lot of details on the mat that are worth looking at. The recon plane flew a figure 8 over the front and had one escort fighter. The plan was for the recon plane to head for home after one complete figure 8. First we tried an RE8 with a Hanriot HD1 escort against an Albatros D.III and an Albatros DV.A, and second was a Rumpler with Pfalz D.III escort vs a Spad XIII and another Hanriot H1. Interesting to see both missions ended up the same with the recon plane going down. (In the second mission a collision with a 10 damage point C card did not help).

Although we found the mat to be a bit dark compared with Ares mats it is certainly full of detail and I think I could recommend them to anyone thinking of buying one. Mine is 6 by 4 and fits nicely on my dining room table surface. It is cloth but very durable and I have wound it round some pvc pipe for storage and to minimize fold creases.

    Thumbs up

Interesting looking mat Gary if rather dark as you say.
However the Aircraft will stand out very well for photos.

Nice one Gary, that's going to see a lot of action in the future

I like it Gary - captures the bleakness of No Man's Land very nicely.

You said you purchased the cloth, do you think the mouse pad would be worth the upgrade?

I am glad I did not order the mouse pad one and cannot see it being worth it, I was thinking of postage costs and weight when I ordered the cloth one. I am very happy with it and to be honest I am not sure how a 6 by 4 mousepad material one would work because it would be a bit unwieldy. The cloth one is thick enough to be durable, the picture will not rub off and it can be ironed if you do not want to store it on a roll.

I was going to say it’s so bleak that it really works well! And you could use that for other tabletop games. I like it a lot!

Bleak seems to be the word of the day - exactly what I was going to say.
Definitely a great rendition of No Man's Land.

It looks like pictures of Verdun and the desolation around it. It is perfect.

Here's to them what are like us. Damn few and they're all dead.
