Thread: Your Space

    Default Your Space

A few weeks ago there was an interest in showing your work space/work bench, where ever you do your creative stuff. Well here goes with mine. Here in the AZ the weather gets a bit warm as so does my garage shop-too hot to play in for sure! So Mrs Clipper offered an idea. Use the dining room!!!? As long as the elves keep things tidy and the paint gets cleaned off the floor once in a while and things can be quickly put away if company arrives (i.e. grandkids!) then the space is yours too! So here we have made Zeppelins, castings and models for 5 years now . . . welcome to the Clipper Dome . . . .

Survey of the area, the table is 3' x 6' covered with a vinyl table cloth to protect the wood below . . . the work area is a large bit of cardboard clamped in place.

Lots of light comes in for those intense painting tasks. Keeping the workspace organized helps make for a happy work area - hardest part is keeping the just used tools and supplies put back after being used. Tough discipline. Wood tool box on the credenza holds a ton of tools, the credenza has many slide out baskets for bigger tools and supplies. Behind the doors lurk the paint cases and large things . . .

This workspace produces a dozen or more minis a month and has been responsible for Mrs Clipper's continued tolerance of my obsession . . . she can be just off in the open living room enjoying a good British mystery whilst I prepare for the bombing or defense of the Empire!

Dave, what is the floatplane with the red/white wing and tailplane stripes? I really need to finish my two floatplanes.
So how many books are in your personal library?

Thanks for sharing Dave! I was one of those curious with seeing what other crafters use for their workspace. I’m still in the process of remodeling mine. I think it’s great that Mrs. Clipper can do her thing and you can do yours while still being so close to each other. At this point, my wife banished me to “the dungeon” when it’s hobby time. Thanks again for sharing

Those are place card holders used for weddings that I found at Michael's or Hobby Lobby a few years ago. They were in the clearance bin as I recall . . . Easy to make with small alligator clips, wire and something heavy for the base.

Do you have any tools or pieces of equipment that you consider “essential” to your hobby that you might be able to recommend, Dave? Some piece you just couldn’t imagine NOT having? Still trying to put my workspace together and I am looking for ideas

It must be marvelous to have your own dedicated work room.

Thank you kindly, Phillip! I snagged the 1/144 Memphis Belle off EBAY for cheap. I spend too much time & too much money on eBay! Haha
