Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
I am free on the 18th. Plus it'll give me another opportunity to buy more contraband goodies for my wargaming addiction
At "Beachhead" Mav said something about having confirmation for this event, but I can't find anything definite on here.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sh...2018-yes-2018-!! Mav put this up some time agao. Two tables. I shall be there.
Thanks Mike - not only do I remember the thread I actually replied to it - d'oh !

Who is bringing what in the way of kit for WGF? Tim are you going? If so that answers my question I guess But I'm happy to bring whatever is needed.
I'll be taking all my stuff so, pretty much sorted for WW1 - obviously if Tim is there then that kind of renders that a pointless exercise lo. O maybe for once Tim would like to pack light?
Either way I think we have thing well and truely covered.. the only thing I would need in Tim's absence is more mats...
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
I can bring a banner for WW1, which mat do you require Chris?
Any thanks Chris, I only have 1 of the current ones and 3 of the originals
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Mike, can you bring some mats then please, plus any aircraft you wish to fly.
I am sure that we will have everything but mats seem to be the main thing currently.
I will be in the boat table so see you there.
And if anyone has any RE-8's that would be useful
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Have a great day. Would love to come but a 9 hour round trip is a bit far at present.
Neil
See you on the Dark Side......
Suggestions for WW1 table:
Game one : Duel of the aces... William Barker and Sopwith Camels against Von Richthofen with Triplanes and Albatrosses - to reflect actual combat actions 100 years ago on this day.
Game two : Vital Recon... Ther Germans are preparing for their massive Spring Offensive - Flight of RE8s with Escorts out to photograph the enemy troop build ups - Jasta 11 are trying to stop them.
Game three : Softening up the enemy - flight of Gotha and light mombers (with escorts) after key British and French positions - 56 Squadron with their SE5a's trying to stop them
Obviously the above depends on having the right number of participants and enough kit - I am sorted for the first two might need a few more SE5s (or we can go again with Camels and Snipes)
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
I suspect Tim has everything you will need and more, but I'll bring some RE8s along with the mats, just in case
Likewise NeilSorry to hear that Neil.
Do keep on with your recovery
Hahahaha missed that completely. Well spotted Neil.
Had a day of blizzards here... what's weather like in Wolverhampton and are we still definitely on? Given the distance I may have to reevaluate plans in the morning.
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Roads looking ok in Bristol, so plan is to pick up Maverick and up to Wolverhampton as planned.
Not seen anything from the show saying its not on so look forward to seeing any who can get there.
Mike and Tim you both still ok or weather got you too ?
Here in Telford we had some strong blizzards. Which didn't last long and the road outside my house is clear. So I'll see what the weather is like in the morning.
Really grim here... every thing freezing solid. Probably not the most sensible move to head down at Half six in the morning
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Alas, the snow has settled on the roads here in West London; Traffic news/predictions show multiple long stretches of slow movement on the M40, particularly over the Chiltern Hills. Google maps predicts a 50% longer travel time than usual.
I could probably make it, but it's a risk (particularly with my current uncertainty with my car) - I think on reflection that I had better not risk it.
Hope those who do go have a great time.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Well been hit by snow here in Bristol overnight, got around 3" snow on my road and car, spoken to Maverick and he has same.
Motorways look clear but slow with lane closures all the way up to Birmingham but dont think I could get to motorway so too risky with more snow to follow all day so not risking it.
Sorry chaps but hit by the weather again.
South West hit by snow
have sent message to organisers
regret due to conditions its a no snow..what?...loads of snow!.....sorry no show!
so guys DO NOT TRAVEL stay at home in the warm and......
paint figures or some other fun to be had
Mav...
Mission scrubbed - get back under your duvets chaps !
Sapiens qui vigilat... "He is wise who watches"
It's grim up north as well sorry chaps mission aborted
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
OK, a bit late on this one, but what the heck.
WMMS 2018
(Written Monday 19th March 2018)
Well, well. What an interesting few days the last have been. Living down in Devon, I had decided to travel to Wolverhampton on the Saturday. The weather forecast was not exactly good, but it was supposed to snow lightly on the Saturday and all be thawing out by Sunday afternoon. I should have known better, shouldnt I? But when you are looking forward to something, I guess there is a tendency to believe what you want to believe!!!
I woke up on Sunday morning and looked out of the window of the hotel, to see this:
uh oh
However, by the time I was packed and ready to quit the warmth of a very nice hotel room, the roads had become reasonably passable in town, so the twenty minute or so drive to the venue passed without incident.
The carpark showed signs of activity! Not all was lost. I made contact with our hosts, who kindly informed me that they had received messages from Heathrow and the Bristol area based Drome members, that attendance was not going to happen. The southern counties were badly hit by snow overnight.
OK I thought, so Im on my own! Problem was, I hadnt thought this through well enough. I had only brought along spare mats and one box of aircraft, containing the requested RE8s. The remaining 29 aircraft in the box were all British!!! Silly me. Never again will I make the error of not taking a fully operational back up plan!
In desperation, I set up a display. The whole lot were taken from their resting places and put on show. The organizer seemed pleased, as not surprisingly there were still other empty tables in the hall.
Then lo and behold, the saviour arrived In the form of Mark, Aka BaronRolf. Not only does he appear suddenly, but he also announces he has the wherewithal to actually play the game; damage decks, range sticks, consoles, tokens, the lot, although he was a little short of British planes, flying mainly Germans, he announced. Wow what a relief.
So the rest of the day was brilliant. We kicked off by setting up to fight one another. But then, in walked two gentlemen, obviously friends, in a competitive way, who had either little or no experience of the game at all. Meet Rob and Bruce a couple of real good sports.
They wanted a go, but seemed a trifle hesitant, at first. But, as we all know, our game is wonderfully easy to learn on the job. Within minutes, these guys were at it like pros. Great to see!
I believe the small advantage of having played once before, albeit a while agao, told in Bruces favour and a collision between allies didnt help. But Rob put up a great fight and was obviously, if momentarily, disappointed not to win. Good to meet you guys!
Next up came a small group of very lively youngsters, already known to forum members, according to Mark, from a previous WMMS. Well thankfully, Mark was up for the challenge and took these guys on, controlling them almost single handedly, with a mixture of relaxed banter, challenges and the occassional destruction of their aircraft. Mark was the master of them all and they departed, without having stopped chattering like a flock of Starlings for the past half an hour or more, happy and excited as only their age group can be! Also great to see. Even the aircraft survived the experience of flayling arms and torsos and sliding base moves But I also believe that the photos reveal one of Marks aircraft as having been shot down, once well done Mark, very sporting
Interestingly, an adult accompanying these youngsters later remarked at how much these chaps had been looking forward to their game of Wings of Glory. That bodes well for the future I think!!!
We played other games, which Im afraid I failed to record, but make no mistake, I couldnt resist taking photos of the final game of our day.
Mark and I and a couple of punters, again totally new to the game, fought against one another in a good ding dong dogfight. One punter and one forum member a side. The outcome was a refreshing, if rare, win for the Entente aircraft. Rare from my point of view that is, since in recent weeks I have introduced one of my Dutch nephews to the game and he trounced me from the start, for around ten days. I trust Niels will make an enthusiastic member of the Dutch wing, once he has been persuaded to actually sign up . Anyway, this win was somewhat of a relief then sorry Mark It was a lot of fun.
By then it was 2 p.m. and my wife was messaging me with anxious descriptions of the snow storms and pile ups in Devon. So I took my leave thanks to the organisers of WMMS who did a splendid job under difficult conditions and thanks especially to Baronrolf, who literally saved the day for me!
I did get home but not that night. I made it to Chippenham where my son lives by that time the roads had been cleared enough. So I spent a very pleasant evening with family, before driving home to wifey today (Monday 19th), along pleasantly clear roads.
I think next time I had better plan things properly
Well done Mike and Mark, sorry couldnt make due to the weather
Great effort, you chaps!
Glad things came together OK.
Reminds me of last year's 'Salute', when everyone thought someone else was bringing the WGS Rules/chits etc. for the afternoon game; on discovering no-one had () I had to open my "display" Battle of Britain box set to get at the necessary bits!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
I remember it wellReminds me of last year's 'Salute'
Sorry chaps only just spotted this. I think the Drome melt down has put me behind with a lot of matters.
Firstly a great big thank you to our two heroes for averting what would have been the first egg on the face event for the Drome. A mention in dispatches for you both.
Secondly an extra thank you to Mike for the superb pictures.
Well done chaps.
Kyte.

I am sorry for the late reply to this thread. I have been busy at work and with Daddy duties. I must admit that I was on the verge of not going. But I decided to go and I am so glad that I did. As I had a fantastic time gaming/ spending at WMMS.
At WMMS I bumped into Roger who used to run Stafford Games. He is starting up again and will be stocking Wings of Glory plane's. And will be attending this years Barrage show in Stafford. The only problem is I've forgotten what his company is called, but he did say that he'll put a post up on the forum when he's up and running.
