Since you are making seaplanes your focus, I will see you and make them mine, too - I have several on my workbench in various states of completion and it's time to finish them! Thanks for the throw-down of the gauntlet
All the best,
Matt
Received my Mosquito order last week so have a few of them to do. 2 fighters/3 fighter bombers and 3 bombers. The fighter bombers have additional items to add. Drop tanks/bombs or rockets.
This guys may look familiar:
This past Christmas I built the dragon 1/35 panther ausf. f L/100. Well I made a few changes to make it seem more used and more like something you would see in a "1946" last ditch effort environment. I took parts from a Tamiya half-track and added an armored machine gun to the turret, and more stowage.
Besides that, I've scratchbuilt a mid air refueling station to fit into the bomb bay of a 1/144 b-29. It's completely fictional, and based off an old game I played a few years ago. The idea is that a plane would fly up and dock. It would then get locked into place and the boom would comedown to start refueling. It's still in a somewhat prototype stage right now but here it is:
It's only a small idea as of the moment, but I do hope to fit it to a b-29 in the future.
That is a loooooonnnnngggg 75 on that Panther, Max! The 'post-war'/continuation war stuff is always interesting...
Your Mosquito paints will be definitely something to behold, Bob - such a cool plane with so many possibilities of action...
Have to get working on my several seaplanes to compete (lamely) with Clipper's efforts...
All the best,
Matt
Nice work on that Panther.
That Halberstadt box art looks nice. I sadly am having airbrush trouble and will need it to get fixed, so no more painting for me.
Lovely job on the Panther max.
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
I did a quick re-paint of a Stark Fokker DVII. I had two and I could not stand looking at that hideous Pink! I don't know if it historically accurate but I saw this paint scheme on a model and really liked it.
I think it is a ZVEZDA game for Samurai. I have the Memoir 44 game and the Command & Colors ancients and Napoleonic. It is because of Andy I bought the C&C game. I have seen guys using that system with 10mm minis.
OK, finished all the characters for Massive Darkness by CMON for my buddy...He starts dropping of critters tomorrow.Attachment 240586Attachment 240587Attachment 240588
Stunning paintjob, Ken.
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Thanks, as normal I do not do the bases for him as we debase them and glue em to clear plastic bases.
Ken those are fabulous. Can't much more about them.
I kinda like the pink. It might help if you Springsteen it and call it, Pahnk. Or coral. Or my favorite from over on the Gundam side of things, Man-Salmon (for that Pink Gundam that is officially called red).
;-)
Edit in: and, oh! Like what you did with the repaint.
Thanks Bruce, I shared the Man-Salmon comment with some friends and they absolutely loved it!
Here is another Camel I did up this week. I found the paint scheme on the web, I believe it is a navel plane. I stripped the model down to bare metal or plastic as I do with most. This way you don't lose any detail with additional coats of paint. Then I airbrush them to get a great even coat on. Small details are brushed on.
Excellent deconstruction! Makes the mini come alive in terms of its design and construction : ) The paint job is exquisite!
Sigh....looks like the guy I did the figs for is less then happy with them. Been doing his stuff for over 2 years and in that time his tastes have changed.
SOOOOO....looks like more time to do E-bay fodder..
I'm liking the idea of an East German finish on that MiG, Max - I look forward to the finished product. Sorry to hear your client sounds like he's not your client any longer, Ken - more time for you to paint things you want to paint, perhaps?
Good looking work here this month - I must get going on some of my projects!
All the best,
Matt

Outstanding work, really like the glass in the cockpits.
Your attention to detail and those cockpits is just amazing! Well done! I’m jealous of your skill!
Great paint jobs as always Kevin. I was going to order some IL-2. Now I know you have the decals for them.
Ken I can't believe that he doesn't like those figures.
Bob,
Been an ongoing effort the last year or so...He wants em lighter but also wants em painted just like the cards. Then gives me alt versions from BGG that are slightly different. Tells me to use my head but then gives me written directions on what he wants. Can not work like that, need more freedom of expression rather then paint by number with the numbers changing and me always not picking the correct one. Add I use the base coat, wash, dust, seal method and then being told I can not dust. I do not dust and am told they are too dark (Yeh...he took away my lightning method) and not as good as the older figs I did (Yeh..took away my choice, lightning method, and joy of painting). Then to top it off talks about how the older figs had flocked and painted bases that really added to the fig but has had me cut the bases off for the last year or so to allow him to mount em on clear bases. Sigh....delt with most of that...but today was accused of screwing up a fig just so he would drop me as a painter....VERY BAD MOVE...I DO NOT screw up figs...even with all the hoops I still try my best, that is what a professional does, at least those from my era.
All three of my major customers are quiet right now so digging into the ready rack for E-bay fodder to paint. Just very upset on how he turned on me. But hey, it happens and after a sale or two will cheer up...smile.
Kevin, your birds are AWESOME!
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Ken if that is his attitude about your work you are better off without that attitude. Sit back and relax and know that the people here appreciate what you do. And most important
Kevin, your Japanese and Russian planes are g o r g e o u s!!!
Who makes those decals? If I were doing Russian and Japanese planes, I would have to get them I, too, really like the way you handle the cockpit color - it's what I plan to do when I start painting/repainting WW2 stuff.
Keep up the awesome work - both in your paintcraft and your decal production.
All the best,
Matt

Thanks for all the comments here and in private...I will get over my funk in a few days. Matter of fact drug out a dozen sprues of Japs for Bolt action from my ready box tonight. Added a MG team, Mortar, 47mm ATG, and an officer I had on hand. Started assembling my next Bolt Action army for Fleabay.
That should keep me busy.
Ken, you just can't please some people. Those ones should be left on their own.
Kevin, more great planes!
Matt I have a number of Kevins decals and they are the only ones I use. I just received 4 new sets I ordered from him. He lives close to me in VA so usually get the decals in a few days. Great service from him.
Kevin I have a pack of those P-51's. I showed the wife the picture you posted and she thought they were good. Then I showed her how big they are and she wondered how you did that. I have to say I am envious of your cockpit window's. Outstanding
I want them the same. Only different.
In my opinion, they're too dark, and would benefit from some drybrushing - dusting. If that's not acceptable, then what is? While there are other techniques for lightening, they take vastly more time for an inferior (IMHO) effect. A painter of lesser talent like me uses a black base, drybrushing with white, then puts the colour over, then drybrushes. It doesn't look as good as a professional's work, but I don't have the talent for that, it's the best I can achieve.
For Ghu's sake, you're the artist. If he wants to micromanage, he makes himself responsible for the final look. The areas where he didn't meddle are first rate. That the final look isn't what he envisaged is a consequence of his own restrictions, despite your ,professional advice.
Feel free to vent here. I'm not in your league, but I know just enough to feel your pain and frustration.
Regarding the IL-2's... That line of darker colour on the boundaries of the colour changes really makes a difference. If I had your talent, I'd use that technique, but I can't paint that finely.
Others have already remarked on the cockpit glazing, so I'll just say I'm green with envy.
You've disguised the boundary of the decals so well that no matter how I try, I can't detect them.
Such small details that most people don't even know what to look for is the difference between amateur and professional, and great art rather than merely adequate-for-gaming. I'm good enough to know what to look for, not good enough to achieve it.
Well good news...my customer did some serious reaching out today and we may have worked things out. I am sort of wondering if lighting can be part of the issue. Use a gooseneck lamp over my painting area but it has a new style bulb in it to stop it from melting my plastic paint table like the 100 watt bulb did. The newer style lights are whiter and are missing some wavelengths of light making things a bit different. Maybe when they hit a game room with older style lighting it affects the look more then I think.
Again thanks for all the support and will keep pics coming.
Great work everyone.
Green with envy at the talent shown.
Kevin - I especially like that Kate.
Looks like a real one shrunk to 1/100
Ken - glad your customer has "seen the light".
I think Michelangelo had issues with some of his patrons as well ...
Thanks Pete.
OK,,,biggest problem I have now is figuring out a simple paint job for 3 CV's I have had since last year (Halb, DFW, and LVG). Not looking for anything too difficult but have limited resources for templates.
Here are my first Russian planes.

Nothing special just plain green. Again AIM models with MISCMINI decals. I used the Su 2 decals on them but they work for me.
Now the escort for my Avengers.

We all want to see a Corsair here are the AIM one I bought. Still have 2 to decal with MISCMINI decals for Corsair's from the BUNKER HILL.
Need to add the disks I just received from the Aerodrome store.
