Thread: Acquiring additional damage decks?

    Question Acquiring additional damage decks?

    Hello all,

As the title suggests, is there a way to acquire addition damage decks without buying additional Rules packs? After my Rules set comes in I’ll end up with those decks and the two A decks from the duel packs. I’d love to be able to buy additional B-D decks.

    Thanks for any help.

I have found them on eBay, either as part of the earlier Wings of War sets, or as standalone decks sold separately. Patience will be rewarded with lower prices

If you don't mind printing them yourself, scan the ones you have and print out what you want.

This is actually one case I’d rather pay for an original item then reproduce them myself. Man is that alot of cutting. I was hoping Ares sold them or one of the after-market guys. Well, time to troll Fleabay...

Oh, I assume the decks haven’t changed between versions?

All damage decks have the same damage points and special damages, so identical. Only the artwork is different, to most of out dismay.

Cards, especially damage don't come up often on ebay. Good luck!

Found a few items tucked away in a box. The rules and accessories pack is complete with bits organized into bags, nice near new condition . . . Pm me if interested, all damage decks are there and complete.

Depending on what decks you want, the duel packs come with A and B decks IIRC. I ended up buying another RAP.

If you don't mind dice rolling there's charts in the file section for it. Works in a pinch if you run out of damage cards.

...and then you can sleeve the printed cards with opaque card sleeves. Works.

Sadly the Duel Packs only come with one A deck now. Thanks, seems I need to take a bit of time and really look a bit closer at the files section.

I've been in this same situation as well, and in the end, I wound up buying additional RAP packs, as I found them to be the least expensive and least effort way to get additional decks.

You can certainly scan and print and sleeve additional cards, if you have the requisite hardware and software, but ink jet cartridges cost a small fortune and the results, while serviceable, aren't directly compatible with production WoG cards unless you also sleeve the latter. Moderate to high cost, and high effort.

I've bought decks off eBay, and that's certainly an option, but availability is essentially random and you might be unlucky and have to wait a bit. Potentially high effort, moderate to high cost.

There are various online services that will print the cards of the appropriate size on demand, and the quality is good, but the price per deck is quite high and you still need to scan or otherwise create your artwork, upload, and etc. This last option is high effort and highest cost.

Whereas you can purchase a RAP pack for around $20-25, depending on where you buy, and you'll get brand new, beautiful quality damage decks plus plenty of extra cockpits, tokens, rulers & etc. You can simply give away the rulebook to a friend or a gaming group and help spread the love of the game. This is, in the end, the lowest effort and potentially one of the lowest cost solutions, with the best quality results.

    That's been my experience, anyways!

I too bought the extra RAP. I also liked the extra tokens, etc.

Thanks guys, unless something falls into my lap I’ll just wait and buy an additional RAP(s) in the future. The idea of printing and cutting that much doesn’t appeal to me at this time. As good as an idea as it is of course.

Anyone know the guys at Ares? Seems to be a money making opportunity here...

Or keep an eye out for some of the old Nexus box sets going cheap - the damage decks and counters are, IMHO, far easier to read and a lot more attractive.

You can still get new copies of Flight of the Giant shipped to the US from France for around $20. The rule book is in french, but that doesn't matter much and it includes a B deck.

Good point. Additionally, it includes 1 each of the bomber maneuver decks (XA, XB, XC, and XD) and a number of plane cards.

RAP from the Aerodrome store is only $22
You get a lot of extras with it.
Plus you support this site ...

Oh, a bit more father out there are also the Tripods and Triplanes damage cards. They are making them cross-compatible.

That's an interesting statement, Corey. Have you a quote/reference for that?

As a part of the playtesting team, I brought up the fact that the 3&3 Damage Decks weren't usable for WoG on WoG fights. Despite anything indicated on the Kickstarter, I haven't heard that the damage decks will change. There will be an add-on that will allow it, but they are keeping the particulars of that option secret, ATM.

They apparently decided on the change after the tripod vs tripod stretch goal was reached. It was mentioned in the kickstarter comments a couple times, but was vague and not worded very well. Roberto later confirmed what he meant on BGG.

I did that. But FYI, Fantasy Flight still has the English rules posted: Wings of War: Flight of the Giants Rule Book

P.S. plus it's another good resource.

Other than yours and the other above comment I don't know, but I am hoping that the 3&3 (should be 3&2 but that's me) Damage Decks are compatible. That would be awesome. Gives you a spare or simply makes it easier to not have two swap out.

    Corey,
I missed that. Too many threads to follow, and I don't spend much time on BGG.

However, your explanation and Roberto's confirmation appear to be the best answer. The prototype decks are different in special damage only, so adding or removing some special damage icons would be the simplest way of doing the upgrade.

I'll see what comes up on my play testing forum. I've asked a few questions that are awaiting answers, especially some altitude wrinkles that haven't been covered by the draft rules I currently have.

Thanks for the tip. 10 euros postage to the UK so not too bad and I've gone for that. I'm in no rush so I'll see what I get.

If you can, snag up an old WoW box set or three.

First you get the great heavy cardboard dashboards. You get your spare damage decks, extra maneuver decks and.....a pack of plane cards in case you want to go the Shapeways route. Well worth finding. Also if you get Flight of Giants it is the only way to get one of the X decks (XC I think). I have grabbed one of everything of the Old WoW boxes and blisters and if DOES make a difference.

    Barry,

Yeah the Zep Strak is XA, the O/400 is XB and the oter two are XD. The only way to get the XC deck is through FoG. Considering I need the XC deck for my Vickers Gunbus from Shapeways it is the ONLY way to get it. If I remember right you get 2 x XA, 1 x XB, 1 x XC, and 2 X XD in the box.

Do you have a source for opaque card sleeves for Wings of Glory sized cards, please, Andrzej, or do you make your own?

    Greetings

My Flight of the Giants (French version) arrived this week while I was on a business trip. It was shrink wrapped and, for the price Ludibay were selling it for, great value.

6 mini airplane control decks (heavy card stock)
A sheet of WoW counters for multi engine aircraft
    The French rules
    Aircraft cards (double sided) for Caproni Ca.3/Fridrichshafen G.III (2); Caproni Ca.3/Gotha G.V; Gotha G.V/Fridrichshafen G.III (entente); Felixstowe F.2A/HP 0/400; Curtiss H.16/HP 0/400; Capromi Ca.4/Zeppelinstarken R.VI (2). Plus equivalent cards showing crew positions
11 bomb cards, 6 objective cards
    B damage deck
2 XA decks, 1 each XB, XC, XD deck

Well worth £11.83 most of which was postage from France.

    Regards

    Edward
