If it is any consolation, Rob, these four are the extent of my Capronitude...

Unlike a couple of my buddies, I haven't felt a need to get one of everything Nexus and Ares has released, but I will plead guilty of picking up more than one of several of their models...

    Glad you like 'em!
    Always the best,

I require that my Capronis keep moving so I can't count them... if I can't count them, they don't exist.

Was there a crew for this plane? Or was it just a random camouflage scheme?

That looks really nice! As I recall, Mike, the packaging on the dappled die-cast one I bought indicated it was Taramelli's plane, so probably the best thing to label a potential card would be 'unknown crew'...

I do have the Windsock magazines on the Caproni, from which I got some info on the 1st Bomb Squadron - I will dig those out and see if any other pilots of squadron planes are named.

    All the best,
    Matt

I managed to acquire a die-cast version with the dappled top wing after I bought my first Taramelli (left plane in the middle row), and then I needed two more to complete the unit. The other two are the Ares plane with a bit of repainting - I wanted each one to be a bit distinctive without going overboard, so I repainted the upper surfaces of one of them to sort of match the dappling on the die-cast version (right plane in the middle row), and on the last Ares plane, I 'repeated' the green camo from the top wing on the bottom wing (bottom plane). This way, they should be easy to differentiate on the game table when they go after the Austro-Hungarian fleet anchored in Pola Harbor (my dream scenario for these beasties - I hope to run it at Origins, eventually...)

Also in the paint booth. I am not a fan of the winter camo version. And so....

Finished up a commission today clearing my Que for the first time since August. Not historical but the next item I started painting today is a Bolt Action Soviet army for E-bay fodder. With luck will have pics of it up in a week or two. On that note here is a pic of the finished Descent figs.Attachment 239150 And yes, the bases are not painted, he removes the bases and glues em to clear plastic discs.

Love the B-25! Great work on all the painting and Mike, the cards are awesome, as usual! Getting up enough finger strength to tackle some serious painting this weekend, the elves have gathered the paints, color pics, and primed the models, all 18 of them, yikes, they even have the insignia printed off. They seem to mean business. Something about a 3 day weekend as well . . . Brushes away!

If you ever feel like you've got too many Capronis, you can paint up some of them as French. The French were lacking a decent native heavy bomber and built Capronis under license, supplemented with direct purchases when output fell sort of projections. First combat flights were in spring of 1916, and their use continued through the end of the war.

It wasn't until August 1918 that the French fielded a native heavy bomber design in the Farman F.50.

Good to see the fingers cooperating, David! Don't let those enthusiastic elves talk you into overdoing it...

Daryl, I know there is the one green version of the Caproni that was done in French markings, and a French squadron would be tempting...I will have to consider taking a plunge in that direction.

The D.VII is Jacobs' mount, just before Jasta 7 repainted their top wings black. The D.VIIs that were delivered had Fokker streaky olive fuselages, and 4 colour lozenged wings. The fuselages were immediately repainted black, but the wings remained lozenged on top for a while, and the bottom wings may never have been repainted.

At a flying guess, the aircraft in the hanger looks like a Pfalz D.III.

These models are for someone else - I think I'll stick with black top wings and lozenged lower ones for my own, but he requested lozenges. Figuring out just what colour Voss's machine was was tricky. Basically aquamarine all over, then olive applied with longhandled brooms in streaks. Cowling green, with the characteristic face on.

McCudden described it as silvery blue, and the gloss varnish accounts for the silvery bit, and other accounts state that the olive covering was thinner to nonexistent near the back of the fuselage. McCudden also describes Voss as not wearing any headgear, so I painted him bareheaded with a Prussian crewcuts, as seen in his photos.

Super paint jobs as usual Zoe, and a very good eye for detail especially Voss's crew cut.

Good to see some modelling 'thunder from Down Under', Zoe! Lovely work, as always.

I have a couple of extra Sachsenberg DVIIs that probably need to be turned into Jacobs and one of his wingmates' planes...thanks for the info on lozenges on the wing-bottoms

I so want to do a 'plane' card for this model! Really!

I can't find any top-down images to use as a template for a Griffin.

I'm thinking that an Elf mage would have 'magic missles' or 'fire balls' for ranged shots. Perhaps only close range, and only once per turn? Just going off on a bad tangent, like some others that did dragons and other fantasy/sci-fi 'what-if's.

    Decals by miscmini.

Which, btw, rate an unsolicited testimonial. Second time using these decals. Images are clear and sharp; colors are bright even over dark surfaces; film is thin but strong and flexible, and stand up to my incessant fiddling and positioning without wrinkle or tear; settle down into details when using a decal setting solution. Top notch.

More great work by the people in here. I just have to take pics of the ones I just finished. Just received 9 planes from Dave (AIM). 3 of one plane I don't have, 3 for a new force I am building and 3 to add to one I already have. And then there will be Mosquitos soon.

Truly lovely work here, David - the elves are to be commended for keeping you in check and giving your hands some fine motor skills therapy! Like Bob, I particularly like the effect you've achieved with the 'swizzle' camo - those pens did yeoman's work

Keep up the inspirational work - and Karl, you need a couple of Do 335s...

Two pictures of a Rumpler CIV repaint that I finished up yesterday - this was originally the brown and green Rumpler. I repainted it based on color schemes from the Wingnut Wings late Rumpler instructions. Shooting star decals are from an old sheet of Albatros DV decals I'd purchased from the Herrn Oberst a while ago (I wasn't planning on repainting that DV). I really like the Rumplers - I have one of each of the original group, along with a couple of extras for repaints, and I'm looking forward to their re-release
    later this year...

Nice job, Matt. Yes, the Rumpler is a very Teutonic looking aircraft

Similar, but not identical, far more elongated.

One interpretation of the rather poor photo we have:

Again outstanding work you Zoe & Matt.

David I saw your Ju88's and had to go get one of those paint pens. I have 3 AIM Ju88's that I now have tp get done. I often wondered how to do that but never thought of those pens.

They should see action at COLD WARS against some I-16's.

Then I looked for something different so went with some Fiat G-50's of the Finnish AF. I looked at some photos and drawing as saw that some were kept in the Italian camo so this is my thoughts on that.

I am working on some other planes for the Finn's. I should get them done next week so maybe we will see some Finnish vs Russian action from the Winter War.

I practiced on side and top views with a pencil to get the size of the squiggles correct, it helped, have fun!

A rather productive weekend with the elves, now onto the WWI pile . . .
Very nice work, and the paint markers are an awesome idea for the paint schemes.

I can't find USC stats for the Do.217. And there are quite a few versions of this plane, too (E, J, K, M, N, and P). Wikapedia even provides two versions, the J night fighter and the M level bomber.

There is a card for one of the Ju.88 swizzle patterns in my albums: Hmmm... All my updated Ju.88 plane cards with management cards are missing...

Lovely work on those Nates and G-50s, Bob - that camo and decal choice on the Nates looks great, and the Finnish G-50s look sweet, particularly the grey/snow camo ones

Ken - your Bolt Action stuff is always splendid - what's your 'handle' on ebay? Not that I need another area of gaming to get into...

    All the best,

The original finish was Neutral Gray undersurfaces, then... well, one of two things happened I can't remember which.
    A. Move to overall NMF resulted in excessive visibility so OD uppersurfaces returned.
    B. Partial move to NMF for weight reduction keeping camo top, then to O/A NMF with establishment of air supremacy.

Mk 18 Mod Briefcase, aka "Project Gremlin," is just about at final configurration--about all that's left is the optic and laser, and then off to the pro gunsmith's shop to have a barrel nut torqued, and then the evil little beast is only awaiting dismantling the Weight & Balance Mockup and reassembly on a live receiver. Assessment from a cop buddy: "I wish they'd let me have one of THOSE on duty!" (Well, not totally, I gotta find a price I like on cases of Mk 262 "Reach Out and Touch Someone" and M855 or Mk 318 penetrator ammo before range testing can begin.)

Ninety rounds racked on and ready as soon as it's out of the bag (ten in the well, forty each front and rear spare mags) just in case I have to singlehandedly take on the local Daesh cell. LOL (Why so much onboard? One may not have time to fight with digging up the spares, so the less pieces the operator's gotta futz with to become Engagement Ready the better.)

Since these pics, blinder light has moved down inline with thumbrest, low-power red light has been moved to top-left rail behind magazine so laser module can mount on sight.

And now you see why it's called a "Gremlin," Dave. A nasty, evil little thing ready to open up the Hurt Locker on whoever needs it--I believe just one Mark 18 in the crowd would have been enough to ruin the Vegas shooter's murderparty.
