    Default East Coast Conventions, 2018

    Happy Holidays, all!

2018 is just around the corner, and it occurs to me that the best way to get together is through the minor conventions that range up and down the coast. I know that Peter is a regular at a number of these conventions, running both Great War and Second World War games. Though I've stayed local up until now (Havoc in MA), I'd like to range a little further this year and get back into the swing of things.

Though this is likely not the best location for a thread of this nature, it might be a good place to start.

I know Havoc XXXIV (2018) will be held on April 6th thru April 8th, 2018 at Maironis Park, in Shrewsbury MA. Sadly, I will not be able to attend this year, but hope to find my way to one or more of the others.

If possible, please post what you know about upcoming conventions... things such as the what, when, and where of each? Maybe even chime in if you think you might be intending to attend?

If the response is good, I'll keep an updated list on the second post.

    Thanks, and happy gaming!

Here are the cons I try to (usually) attend and run games. Chris already mentioned Havoc. Carnage and Fall In often fall on the same weekend. I usually go to Fall In when this occurs.

Cold Wars, (HMGS) 16-18 Mar Lancaster PA. Webpage 'HERE' I've submitted 5 games, one Battlefront WW2 15mm miniatures, 4 Wings games, 2 each WWI & WW2.

Huzzah! 18-20 May in South Portland Me. Webpage when it becomes active will be 'HERE'. I've run 3-5 games here. Will pass on more when submission is open.

Historicon (HMGS) 12-15 July Lancaster PA. Webpage will be 'HERE'. I haven't gone to this for a few years since it moved to Fredericksburg. Now its back to Lancaster so I hope to go again this year.

Fort Devens game day. ? September Fort Devens MA. Won't get a date on this for some time.

Council of Five Nations 5-7 October 2018 Webpage 'HERE'.

Carnage on the Mountain 2-4 November Killington VT.

Fall In (HMGS) 9-11 November Lancaster PA. Webpage will be 'HERE'.

One that I just stumbled on ..CaptainCon 2-4 February 2018 Warwick R.I. Webpage 'HERE'. I have to look into this one. If schedule fits I may have to see if they are still excepting submissions.

Thanks, Peter! That is exactly what I was looking for! My hope is to attend a number of these conventions this year... let's see if we can't drum up some attendance for these!

I've had great luck on attendance overall at these shows. The only show, Huzzah in Portland ME. has been erratic on attendance for wings games. I have a bit of trouble as they play a lot of Aerodrome up there.

Fort Devens is not a true con as I doubt there is much if any advertising. Attendance there is poor. I am surprised though as it's location is central to a few Aerodrome members but I have not had any show up. (correction, one, Thomas is the only Aerodrome member attending, twice!)

Good mention Mark. I have my tickets already. Don't forget Guns of August by the same group.

I can think of several off the top of my head fairly early 2018 (wow, almost typed 1918) East Coast conventions, and there are some more in the back of my mind:
Brunswick Games Day, 6 January 2018, Brunswick, MD: http://www.fantasymaps.com/gaming/brunswick.html
Congress of Gamers winter session, 13/14 January 2018, Rockville, MD: http://emsps.com/cog/winter/
Games Club of Maryland Winter Games Fest, 26-28 January 2018, Severn, MD: https://winterfest.gamesclubofmd.org/
Prezcon Winter Nationals, 19-25 February, 2018, Charlottsville, VA: http://www.prezcon.com/

I'm likely to be at one or more of these. Like Fast Git, I'm tempted to use this post as a placeholder for a more extensive list.

    Hey Peter...

At which of the PA conventions (Cold Wars, Historicon, Fall In!) are you planning to run games?

I will definitely be at Cold Wars, should be at Historicon this year. The one I might miss is Fall In as Carnage on the Mountain in Vermont is the weekend before and a lot less driving. I'll not know about Fall In until later this year when some life decisions settle themselves out.

I'll be at Cold Wars too, but as a player.

Carnage on the Mountain? Missed that one... and it's not all that far from me! This might be one I can make.

Another reason to try and make Cold Wars. I'm not sure I can wrestle the schedule... but I might! Pre-reg is already open, isn't it?

Crap, my ride fell through, and I'm missing Brunswick Games Day even as I'm typing this.

Ah, well, there's still Congress of Gamers Winter session next week. That's so local, I don't have to worry about transportation, I can take the bus.
Anyone else planning on hitting that one?

Pre-reg for Cold Wars should be open tomorrow, 8 Jan.

I just posted a link to CW and a list of what I am running.

OK, I just got a note from the people at Balticon s/f convention. ( 25-28 May, 2018, Renaissance Harborplace Hotel, Baltimore, MD http://balticon.org/wp52/ ) Yes, they have a well-stocked, well-attended game room; two, in fact: one for boardgames, one for RPG/miniatures games. Anyway, the word from the person running the RPG/miniatures games is that they'd like to have me do a WGF game; so as I work out exactly what, and when during the con, I will post it. But I'll be there, running some sort of WGF scenario, for sure.

BTW, I checked the game schedule, Kaarin ( kengelma ) is running another cycle-through-the war mega-game at CoG. I'm in for that one.

I wish I was more centrally located as the majority of cons are quite a drive for me. I am compounding the problem by retiring to Maine!

More Gaming Conventions (or related genre conventions which will have gaming) I have come across:

DeRail , Apr 6-8. Newark, DE. Rail games. https://www.gamesclubofmd.org/DeRail.asp

World Boardgaming Championships, Jul 21-29. Seven Springs, PA. Tournaments, board gaming. https://www.boardgamers.org/wbcindex.html

Congress of Gamers Summer Session, Aug 17-19. Tysons Corner, VA. Tournaments, board gaming. http://congressofgamers.org

WashingCon, Sep 8-9. Board gaming, etc. http://washingCon.com

Congress of Gamers Fall Session, Oct 13-14. Rockville, MD. Tournaments, board gaming. http://congressofgamers.org

And here's another that I almost missed, just got notice of it the other day: Games Club of Maryland Games Days.

Looks like I don't have transport for my bins, though, so I personally can't help run a WoG game. Anyone else going? They always have open gaming.

Not this time of year. Nice here; low humidity and in the low 70s. And we like tourists, they go home!
