Thread: Successful Sortie to the RAF Museum

Default Successful Sortie to the RAF Museum

I was up at Hendon yesterday so popped in to the RAF Museum to see what they were doing to it. The Spitfire and Hurricane reproductions and the Hunter and Bloodhound that were outside have all been removed and the whole of the area around the Museum is being landscaped. The BoB Hall and the Milestones of Flight hall are closed for remodelling, and a lot of the aircraft from these areas have been moved in to the main halls (the Me 110 is in bits and scattered around several locations). Other than that the main halls look the same as the have always looked.

However I did well in the Museum shop, picking up a few stocking fillers and a couple of bargains. Notably amongst the latter were the 3 volume illustrated history of 303 (Polish) squadron, down from £25 a volume to £7.99 each! (Eat your heart out Andrzej )

The Granddaughter did well out of the shop raid, as I got her a pilot rubber ducky to add to her collection

and as I spent over a certain amount she got a free pilot teddy bear - I guess they were trying to offload them as they had 2017 on one of their paws.

Together with a major spend in the nearby model shop, all in all a successful day out.

What a nice find, Steve! W. MATUSIAK is a well known author here.

Great find! Would love to have the set, but the price kept me from pulling the trigger.

You've reminded me, Steve, that I need to run up to the US Air Force Museum and hit the book shop...not to mention stroll through the WWI and WWII galleries to see what's new. Unfortunately, they don't often have things marked down for sale...

Nice haul, by the way - too bad the bear's rank doesn't indicate Air Vice Marshal Teddy...

    All the best,
    Matt
