Thread: Cleaning up Shapeways models

    Default Cleaning up Shapeways models

I've come across a dozen SW models I bought at the beginning of the year, which were washed in washing up liquid then stored. However, the grease/oil/whatever they use in the production process still appears to be leaching out of the model. Will a long-term bath in Fairy Liquid cure this, or does anyone have any other preferred methods?

What does SW (material? Star Wars?) mean, Steve?
To my mind, grease and oil would be easily wiped out by a "grey soap" wash.
Grey soap - we name this way a pure cubical soap, free from any additives.

Honestly, in cleaning up wildlife, one of the most useful things we have around for dealing with oil is Dawn brand dishwashing detergent. Much as I hate to plug specific brands of stuff, this is one area where brand does seem to matter. Check to see if it is available in your area.

And with the minis, you don't have to worry about an animal trying to kick, scratch, bite, and squirm its way out of your arms when trying to clean it up.

I have also used Dawn soap, It does a good job for me.

3 votes for Dawn! . Not sure we have it over here, but I’ll look out for it. Thanks.

Try Fairy Liquid Steve, it's made by the same people as Dawn - Proctor & Gamble - even the bottles look the same.

Ah, that’s what they have been languishing in for the last couple of days. I’ll have a look to see how they are getting on later, after I have finished removing the turbochargers from some P38s.
