Thread: Mini-European(45mmx68mm) card sleeves with coloured backs.

  1. #1

Default Mini-European(45mmx68mm) card sleeves with coloured backs.

I sent this tentative enquiry e-mail to Mayday Games asking them about the possibility of them producing Mini-European(45mmx68mm) card sleeves with coloured backs.

"I am a Wings of Glory player and it would be useful to have Mini-European (45mmx68mm) sized sleeves with coloured backs to house home-made cards for the game, produced to replace lost or damaged cards or unobtainable or experimental cards. The backs would not need a fancy pattern or anything, just a plain colour, which could not be seen through, so that the home-made card is indistinguishable from official cards. They would also allow players to mix old Nexus cards with the newer Ares cards.
Do you think that your company might ever produce such sleeves, please?"

    I have received this reply,"

    Hello, David.

The number of requests for opaque-backed mini-euro sleeves is so small, we haven't looked into creating them. If there's a high demand for these sleeves, then that may change. If you can find proof for such a demand, say a BoardGameGeek.com post with a lot of "me too" posts I would have an argument for creating these sleeves.

    Thanks,
    -Curt"

So, what do people think, are there enough of us here, who would like such sleeves?

Not something I would be particularly interested in. Sorry Dave.

    O
paque-backed sleeves are perfect. I use them for some of my games (I sleeve almost all cards). They are especially useful when cards are worn out or have some visible defects. Unfortunately they usually make decks much thicker.

I would buy them exclusively were they to become available

    I would buy them.
If this does not come to fruition I might try spray painting some.

I had not thought of spray painting them, Pete. That is a good idea.

I'm rezzing this to say "me too." I would also love Matte mini-sleeves as well.

I did say something on BBG, but it was a side rant, because what I really would love is Ares to make Premium Replacement Decks. There's a game I play, where you can buy cardboard or plastic cards. Plastic Maneuver cards, possibly with a linen finish would be amazing. Imagine cards not sliding around and being sturdy. I wouldn't go nuts and replace all my decks. I would just do some key ones.

I'd just cut a piece of coloured paper to size, and slide it in behind the WOW card - no need to go to the expense of a whole new set of sleeve packs.

Or print up generic logo'ed card backs? I did up ink-saver versions for my play-test Tripods decks.

I have found a few planes in my collection that are missing maneuver cards, the latest was a #7 card from a "T" deck. What do I do with that? I could print a replacement, but it will not be the same as the rest of the deck. Without opaque-backed sleeves, it will be noticable. With a Wings of War/Glory backing for the whole deck? Not so noticable.

BoardGamesMaker.com has plastic cards as an option. I have not used it, yet.
So how many books are in your personal library?

This file could be used to make blank card backs?

'drome Downloads - WWI - WoW Blank Card Backs

These would not be ink friendly, but if you put together a sheet of cards (9 per 8.5x11) and had a local print company do a sheet or two?

PS: Two ink friendly WoG versions:

PPS: You could type or print anything onto the white versions, including the plane and maneuver letter.

Thanks, Mike. I just discovered this thread. These card backs are great! Now that I am acquiring unofficial third party planes to use with my official WoG planes, I was looking for generic backs for my unofficial plane cards. I located the WGF country specific ones also. Are there any WGS country specific cards floating around on the Aerodrome site? And are there any generic backs on the Aerodrome site for the heavy fighter and bomber size plane cards?

Of course. Tim! Why didn't I think of that? Simple solutions are usually the best!
