I played a 3 tripods against 5 planes at Mjolnir Games Roma shop, this week. First Italian game with the public.
A Locust, a Scarab and a Squid tried to get across the Piave while two Macchi, two Hanriot and the Red Baron in person (in Italy to teach local pilots how to face the new danger) attacked them with rockets and machineguns.
Here the Earthlings ready to face the Martians.
Two tripods (mine included...) bumped into each other and toppled just at the first turn.
Luckly the planes were still far and could not take advantage of our momentary lack of shields.
Soon the battle raged and the tripods neared the 9 villages and military camps they had to destroy, before exiting the field of battle across the opposite side.
Volleys of enhanced LePrieur rockets severely damaged the tripods, together with well aimed machinegun bullets across their unprotected sides, but were not enough to destroy them.
At the same time, corronding clouds of black smoke damaged the planes without shooting down them. Several targets were totally sucked by Martians along the battle.
Lady Red Baron was the first to fall. After several shots from medium heath rays, it was the heavy one from the Scarab to inflict the final blow.
A Macchi severely damaged the Squid with its rockets but was shot down. After the last village had been destroyed the three Tripods marched South and almost reached the winning line, but then Lady Fucini finished Squid with some well placed shots. The aim of exiting South with the whole Martian army had been prevented at the very last minute. The battle goal became total distruction for both sides. Another Macchi fell.
Lady Fucini managed to destroy the huge Scarab.
But the nimble Locust had a clear short range shot against the other Hanriot soon after, destroying it.
The final chase by Lady Fucini against the Locust, emitting black smoke from the rear and keeping only its shielded rear visible to the plane, had a dramatic end when the Hanriot managed to engage in a final frontal confrontation. The two machins destroyed each other. Third victory for the audacious pilot, the heroine of the day! A real pity that she fell close to the three-legged heap of pierced alien metal.
The invasion had been definitely stopped, but at what cost. The fertile countryside along the Piave was now a barren and desolated land, scattered by the ruins of deserted villages and smoking wrecks. No one survived! How can these people smile in front of all that havoc?
