What did he say? "A day of infamy that will live in our memories forever". He was correct!

Sorry to say but this generation doesn't even know who we fought in WWII yet alone what Dec 7th is. At least the folks in here remember this day and the many others that gave us the lives we have today. A salute to all of them.

I was thinking about that yesterday. Spent 3 hours or so at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. I was thinking that Pearl Harbor ignited American industry and that eventually saved the world from both Japanese and German aggression. Wish someone could do that now and get rid of all the terrorists.

In remembrance to those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor and through the war in the Pacific that followed.

One of our Downtown Oakland Senior Center members Mickey Ganitch is a Pearl Harbor survivor. At 98 years old he still drives to the center five days per week where he volunteers at the injured veterans administration desk. He is currently in Hawaii for the Commemoration. He is a great man, but more importantly a great friend. It is a wonderful benefit to get paid to work on behalf of such an awesome person.

As a Navy man he gives me a bit of friendly grief for liking the aircraft so much, but it is all good fun. Tonight I run a solo scenario where I will protect the ship he was on, the USS Pennsylvania, from a Zero escorted Val with my trusty P-40.

I wouldn't say the current generation is that bad. If it is true, then I must be one in a thousand in my generation that cares greatly about these things.

I work with a lot of people in their 20s. For them, 1941 is so long ago. It is important for other, like us, to keep that history and its significance fresh. That is why I respect the re-enactment work my wife does. Tokhuah's friend Mickey Ganitch is a national treasure -- a connection to Pearl Harbor, and I admire the work that he does. Even games such as WoG play a role in keeping the history and its lessons fresh. It introduces people, through a game, to the events the basics of the events that occurred. It introduces them to knowledgeable people like those here at the Aerodrome. It can also spark an interest in learning how these things occurred, and why, and how we can apply those lessons to what we face today
