The weather was horrendous last weekend and I fancied a game so I dragged out a multitude of different early/mid war types for a pre Christmas mixer.
I took the selected 13 machines, randomly selected opposing pairs, when and where they would enter, rule was that first turn was three straights, used my D8 charts, no altitude and off I went for a solo celebration.
Here's a few shots of the action -
The RFC N.11 exchanges lead with the Swabisch Spad V.II - each scoring well, leaving the Nieuport ablaze and the Spad well knocked about.
The Morane slips in behind the Spad and exacts a small measure of revenge by damaging its tail. Meanwhile the Leffer's Nieuport holds its own with the Spad, who jams its gun again, but takes control damage in return & is made to smoke by the N.17
It ends badly for the Leffers Nieuport as its bigger brother A-Apple takes it down from behind...
Foot's Spad sneaks in and finishes off the battered Swabisch Spad as it turns for home
The Halberstadt D.II entered from the 7 o'clock and engages the Nieuport 16 F - Freddy that had entered from the 11 o'clock in a head on pass - the the dirty red Eindecker chips in too - The N.16 cause control damage but takes some itself, jams its gun and takes engine damage
The Halb D.II goes down fighting but even as he sends the Morane home he gets hammered from the sky - a kill for the Brit N.11
The Nieuport's bump but no significant damage - The N.11 pastes the Eindecker, engine damaged, set afire and down it goes - 2nd kill to N.11
The Halberstadt takes a long shot and scores big !
All models were flown by AI - 13 entered the action, 5 were shot down (4 were German), 6 others were forced to retire damaged, 2 (one from each side) Returned to base at the end of the game of their own volition. All in all a good day of gaming and a nice outing for types various that mostly don't see enough daylight !
