    Default Regia Aeronautica

Fantasy but after reading the Osprey 53 Stormo book I would like to see more Italian planes in our game. An SM.79 would be good to start with. What else would you like to see?

Would be nice paired with a Mitsubishi G4M Betty as next/new packs of WGS medium bombers.
    Voilą le soleil d'Austerlitz!

Now that is a very sensible suggestion.

They are both fine suggestions but they are both Axis machines. For the Allies, how about a Douglas A-20 Boston and a Vickers Wellington?

WGS is missing some of the most important types fielded by the Regia Aeronautica

    Bombers
    Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero (1240 used)
Fiat BR.20/20M Cicogna (total 512 used - 82 also used by JAAF in Sino-Chinese War 1938-39)
Savoia-Marchetti SM.81 Pipistrello (534 used - front line use in Spanish Civil War)
    CANT Z.1007 Alcione (582 used)

    Fighters
Fiat CR.32 'Chirri' (1052 used - front line use in Spanish Civil War)
    Fiat G.50 Freccia (683 used)
    Macchi MC.200 Saetta (1151 used)
    Macchi MC.202 Folgore (1351 used)

    Attack
    Breda Ba65 (200 used)

I would suggest the priority for production should be the SM.79, MC.202 and MC.200.

Don't even get started about the gaping hole in early war RAF bombers! That deserves a whole other thread!

But the Douglas DB-7/A-20/Boston/Havoc is a great choice (7,478 produced) given it was used by the USAAF, French Armee del'Air, RAF, RAAF, RCAF, SAAF and Soviet VVS.

CANT Z.506 Airone (recon and SAR missions).

Blenheim, used in every theatre of the war and winner of most VC's for aircrew throughout the War. 1,930 built.

SM.79 & Blenheim, would be great, too.

Blenheim is somethig for all Theaters, except Eastern Front I think.

The Finns used the Blenheim, so you could incorporate the aircraft into Eastern Front action.

It would be great to see some seaplanes and flying boats one day, the CANT, PBY, Heinkel He-115, Kawanishi H8K 'Emily' - maybe even a Short Sunderland! But I feel they would be a long way off, and rightly so with so many other more pressing types still to be produced.

Not necessarily -- the Z.506 was used as a bomber (level, and torpedo) as well; so one could do "duel packs" of "PBY v. H8K" for PTO (a battle which in fact happened at least once!), "PBY vs. He-115" for Northern ETO, and "PBY vs. Z.506" for Southern ETO. (The main problem being: The Allies didn't use that many flying-boats or floatplanes on the front line.)

A two flying boat duel pack would be very expensive to buy.

I can't see these planes being produced until official maritime combat rules are introduced.

Well the Cant is available on Ebay. Not sure if there is a card for it.

Please check this: OldGuy's WWII Italian Bombers Album - CANT Z.506B Airone (Heron) Plane Card

Look in the album for the management card, as well as the another paint scheme.

Why would maritime-combat rules be necessary? One can fake it easily enough with the basic bombing rules.

Naharaht does make a point: Due to their size, flying-boat and/or seaplane duel-packs would be spendy pieces.

One other point: There was (briefly) an Italian contingent at the Battle of Britain. "Corpo Aereo Italiano" was originally formed with the following units:

    -- 80 BR.20M bombers (of which 61 made it to Belgium): 13o Stormo, 11o and 43o Gruppi; 43o Stormo. 98o and 99o Gruppi
    -- 50 CR.42 fighters: 56o Stormo 18o Gruppi
    -- 45 G.50 fighters (of which 42 made it): 56o Stormo, 20o Gruppi
    -- 5 Z.1007bis recon acft.: 172a Squadriglia RST
    -- 12 Ca.133 transports
-- 11 Ca.164 liaison acft. (of which 9 made it)
    -- 1 SM.75 staff transport

and operated from the Boulogne-to-Vlissingen area of the Channel coast. First mission was flown 24 October '40; last daylight mission 11 Nov. '40; withdrawn from area 16 April '41.

For flying boats what would the cost be ? The ones mentioned EMILY and Sunderland I think would cost a lot.

It would depend on the maker -- the Cafe Reo 1/144 gashapon Sunderlands I have only cost $7.50 apiece (tho' they were acquired in bulk with other models).

    Which Zs? 501s? 506s? 1007s?

Problem is there are so many A-20 variants an SP won't cover 'em all.

If we're getting floats, and I know the US homers'll see me as a turncoat, I want a Sunderland in the mix somewhere--specifically the one that took on like six Ju88's and won.

I have 1 emily and 1 mavis plus 2 B17's. I was going to run this as a 2nd game at Doncaster on the Friday. Might resurface for next year (Friday game) and keep China 38 for Saturday.

The USN used B-24s on countless solo missions. Bettys, Emilys and Mavis' were some of their favorite prey.

Chris they are the AIM twin tail Cant Z 1007. You gave me a list of the Italian squadrons awhile back so now I have the correct squadron number for them.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Flying Porcupine, either; I already have a stash of 1/144 gashapon kits for that: http://d2ev13g7cze5ka.cloudfront.net...g?v=0000000001 ....

Just received an order from MISCMINI (Kevin) and asked about decals for Italian planes. He replied back that he is working on them at this time so should see some soon.
