Doncaster 2017 - Through the Helmut-cam; Saturday, Game #2 "Aerodrome Ambush"
General overview; almost ready to begin...............
5 British Nieuport 17s, 'B' firing, each with 2 bombs, attack a German Aerodrome, but are intercepted by 4 Albatros D.IIIs.
MvR flies downhill!
Frommherz moves to intercept the incoming Nieuports
Frommherz Immelmanns, to engage an out-of-picture Nieuport, but MvR's guns jam!
Tutscheck (flown by Dirigible 2) swings into the attack, followed by Goering, while the Nieuports single-mindedly press on toward the airfield.
On the right, the N-17s push on past the interceptors.
Amy Biggles (Whispering Death) leads the British attack, unleashing one of her bombs against the AA MG in her path.
Direct Hit! With the gun silenced, the British swarm over the aerodrome.
John and Hannah Biggles release bombs, as the Albatri struggle to catch up to the N-17s
Mayhem ensues! The Germans try to send up a plane from the Aerodrome to help out (centre)
German ground fire proves deadly accurate - one N-17 is smoking, another is set on fire.
On the way out over the aerodrome, one N-17 is shot down, while a third is set afire!
Damage cards inflicted are all or nothing...................
The lead Nieuport crashes; the following pair are both on fire. Meanwhile, the aerodrome D.III scrambles aloft.
The D.IIIs chase the remaining N-17s away from the 'drome; respawn N-17s appear in the background.
A Nieuport succumbs to fire damage, while a respawn (flown by Ruth Biggles) tries to penetrate the Albatros screen...................
...................successfully!
The aerodrome braces itself for more damage...................
...........but three Albatri pump bullets into the lone English scout, and it is destroyed just short of its target.
Game over at that point - All 6 Nieuports were shot down, for the loss of 1 Albatros D.III
Two hangars were destroyed, along with 1 AA MG. 1 wooden hangar is partially destroyed, while the transport section receives light damage.
Overall, a German victory.
