Thread: Two-seater Skirmish

    Default Two-seater Skirmish

There were five of us available on Tuesday. We decided on flying two-seaters to give some experience to our newer flyers. We also decided that if shot down we could re-enter in another two-seater. Due to the time it took to fly from the edge to the centre where the action was happening, a pilot who was shot down did not immediately re-enter the fray.
The Central Powers started with a Hannover CL.III, a Halberstadt CL.II, and a Ufag C.I. The Entente had a Bristol F.2B, a DeHavilland DH4, and a Breguet BR.14. This was a little unbalanced in terms of fire power because the Central Powers planes had B guns front and rear. For the Entente the F.2B had a A front gun, and the DH4 a A rear gun.

Here is sample of photographs taken through the game.

    2) a close encounter, with less damage than might have been because of the jammed guns. (We had a lot of jammed guns in this game. We'll have to vet the ground crew better!!)

    3) The Hannover has already gone down. Now it is the Breguet.

    4) The Hannover pilot returns flying a camouflaged Roland C.II. The DH4 gets up close and personal with the Ufag!

    5) The Halbestadt has gone down, while the DH4 continues close contact. This time with the Roland. In the background is the RAF RE.8 flown by the former Breguet pilot.

At the end of the game only the Ufag and the Bristol F.2B remained of the original planes!

I have edited the original post because others have assured me that the original Ufag was also still flying when we ended the game. (And none of them were the Ufag pilot!)

Nice to see 2 seaters going at it.

Thank you for the good A.A.R., Doug.

Most gun jams were caused by defective ammunition, which is why so many pilots became 'bullet checkers'. The ground crew would probably not have enough time available to check every pilot's ammunition.
