We chose to do something a little different this night and used Todd's really nice mat for our games. This tells you where you can get one just like it.

AAR #1. Open with a dogfight while waiting to see who would arrive, but with a difference. I suggested Fokker Eindeckers against Morane-Saulniers. I was told this would be a rather slow dogfight. Mike and I flew the Eindeckers, while Todd, John and Paul flew the Moranes. Here one of the Moranes is on fire while one is overlapped by Mike's Fokker.

And the Morane goes down in flames. Poor blighter.

Now Mike is on fire while I try to catch up to the action.

Mike finally succumbs but notice all those zeroes he drew.

Maneuvering to get at least one of the Moranes in my sights. Having that Morane not aligned with the central axis of its base is a bit confusing.

And finally I crash due to excessive damage. So the Central Powers lost that round.

AAR #2. While Mike was sitting out after going down in flames, he was planning the next game. Mike flew an Airco DH-10 on a photo-recon mission while Paul provided cover with a Nieuport 28. Todd, John and I flew Siemen-Schuckert D-IIIs. Here, two German aircraft converge on the Neiuport defender while one overlaps the Airco DH-10.

And Paul draws double engine damage cards. While not destroyed, he is effectively out of the game.

That rear gunner with an A gun is really deadly. One of the German planes is on fire while two others give chase.

The Airco was successful at taking its photo, and is now trying to escape. The rear gunner finally takes me out with damage.

But the Airco finally dies from damage hits. Again Mike drew a large number of zeroes.

AAR #3. Attack the balloon. Again three Siemen Schuckert D-IIIs (Todd, John, and myself) against the balloon (Todd) with an SE5a (Paul) on defense. There were also three anti-aircraft guns defending the balloon. Heading for the balloon and the flak guns open up.

Two planes are hit with one shot. The second shot almost scored a hit, too.

The AA gunners were terrible shots, and Paul catches some flak from the defenders and draws the Boom card. He respawned in the SE5A to continue to defend the balloon.

One of the attackers goes down. It's difficult to continue with 10 damage points in one hit.

I destroy one of the anti-aircraft guns. But Todd says that it is 9 damage points not inflicted on the balloon.

Balloons can take damage at +1, so those cards are in front of the support rods while regular damage is behind the rods. Meanwhile, I'm heading for some anti-aircraft flak.

Suddenly the balloon draws the Boom card. With the damage it already received, it went down in flames. Unfortunately, I was directly under the balloon, so I had to draw three A damage cards to determine the ultimate fate of my airplane. It did not survive.

And that's all for another monthly session at the Family Game Store. I hope more flyers can make it to the next outing.

When the balloon busting mission started, I was in a fourth Siemen Schuckert and Todd was flying the Se5a. I was the one that went down with the 10 from flak damage, so Todd suggested I come back in as a replacement for his Se5a that had blown up.
