Still working on the two Shapeways SE5a -- initial paint done -- awaiting sanding, touch up, and detail painting. Also waiting for arrival of decals (thanks to Teaticket for the tip on these) and Aerodrome Store order of simulated spinning propellers.

Well after buying 4 different Vallejo blue color paints, getting info and advice from some of the people in here, getting a scan of the NAVY/USMC Vallejo set and getting a chart of all the Vallejo paints I finally found the color that looks right to me so hope to get the Avengers done this week.

Steve, your Aliens and the USCM APC are waaayyyyy cool!

I successfully applied decals to a Jasta 18 Fokker triplane, so my four tripes for Jasta 18 are almost done - will post pics in the next couple of days as time allows...

FoW Hetzer build is in the works, along with three Shermans almost finished - pics to follow as they're completed.

    All the best,
    Matt

    Default An unholy trinity ?

Last one rolled off the work bench a couple of days ago to form a deadly trio of Albatrii D.III from Jasta 11 - MvR leads, Kurt Wolff (green), Karl Allmenröder (white)

I used Humbrol enamels on the top plane - 120 Pale Green; 186 Chestnut Brown; 75 Bronze Green, topped with Klear to help with decals then used Revell clear acrylic varnish over that, replaced the decals, used some (very) old GW Blood Red over them and sealed them in too. From photos some seem more overpainted than others so I tried to vary the coverage.

These four Jasta 19 triplanes have been on the workbench for a while now, and I've been tackling them on and off as the mood hits. I finally ordered the lightning bolt decals for Koerner's tripe from Mehusla about a month ago and sat down this week to apply them and finish this foursome for play. Three of the planes were Rahn triplanes, and the fourth (Koerner's lightning bolt) was an all red Manfred von Richthofen...they were all repainted to accentuate the streaked camo and to make sure they matched topsides and bottom. Markings on Goetsch's (the swastika) and the unknown pilot's (the triangle) were hand-painted, and I was going to hand-paint the lightning bolts when I ran across the decal sheet on 1/144 Direct...

The yellow and black tails were repainted, too, to make sure everything was covered and matched. I really like the Jasta 19 triplane scheme - white markings over the tan and green camo with the colorful tail - simple yet striking. These fellows will be in the air soon, perhaps even this weekend at our gaming date at Epic Loot...

    All the best,
    Matt

Any links how to paint those 3 basic teams, Steve?

I'm not bothering wth the Predators at the moment. For the Aliens I'm thinking along the lines of black base coat, blue wash, dry brush highlights blue/black, although this may change. The Marines will get a camo pattern similar to the one shown in the Colonial Marines Handbook, which was published by Boxtree when the Aliens film came out, although any DPM pattern will do.

However, all this is now academic, as my AIM Emily, Rufe, Lancs and Mustangs have arrived and are now at the front of the painting queue

Well something to look forward to in the future. I am the same way. Have 3 Avangers , 4 MC200's and 2 Blenheims painted up and waiting for decals. I think I will work on them Sunday while watching football. Tomorrow will be out on the Chesapeake Bay on the SS John W. Brown, WWII Liberty ship. Last time I was on the ship they had a flyover by a B-25, fake Zero and a repro Val. Hope to see them again and maybe a few more since there is a show at Andrews next weekend. Some of the planes that will be there might do a flyover.

OK so how many OSCARS will we have ? I guess I should also start on the 4 Corsairs I have since you mentioned them. Found that Prussian Blue is the color I like and what is in the scan you sent me. Have decals from MISCMINI for the Bunker Hill (Corsairs). Will have my Avengers done this week.

Bob, no Corsairs needed this time around so no pressure to get them done by Fall In. It will be strictly Oscars vs B-24s. I'll have 10 Oscars, your 4 make 14 so 7 Japanese players can be fielded. One B-24 per American player vs players with 2 Oscars. If we have more players I'll give them Zeros but treat them like Oscars.

I'll get the Corsairs into it at Cold Wars.

I just finished painting my first miniature (ever), it's not a plane, but that will definitely be coming in the future. I recently ordered both Mice and Mystics and Tail Feathers after watching some gameplay videos and thinking they would be good games to play with my family, especially the kids. Mice and Mystics comes with some really simple cockroach miniatures that seemed like they would be a good place to start for someone that's never painted a miniature before, but Tail Feathers got here first by about a week and I couldn't contain myself. Technically I started with one of the simpler birds, a starling, and got it to about 80%. At that point I was feeling pretty comfortable in my ability to not make a total mess of things so of course I jumped right into the most intricate bird in the box... I need to work on some of the mice (the pilots) but I'm pretty happy with how this guy turned out. Between the two games I've got some 45 or so miniatures to be painted, I guess I'll be busy for a while.
