Hi Dave, I remember it well. I just completed some refresher disaster management training and did an earthquake desktop exercise. I hope we never have to do it for real over here.

The Australian Armour and Artillery Museum is fantastic - great collection, well curated with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I get home tonight so will post a report later this week.

Flew back to Brisbane from Cairns last night and currently sorting the hundreds of photos and videos I took at Ausarmourfest 2017.

Screen shot from one of the videos as a taster - Pzkpfw VI Tiger replica used as a stand-in for the Bovington Tiger for some shots in the movie 'Fury'.

I, too, am looking forward to your reportage, Carl! Your 'teaser' above heralds good things to come - didn't realize the Bovingtion Tiger had a stunt double

Is this replica the same one used in Saving Private Ryan? I can remember that at Bovingdon after the film came out.

I believe the one from SPR was a modified T34/85. This one is a scratch built replica to stand in for the Bovington Tiger during 'Fury' in those scenes where the tank copped a packet.

I seem to remember the Saving Private Ryan Tiger on a T-34 chassis, too...

Interesting that they actually specifically built a stand-in for the Fury Tiger's 'death scene'...not that they would have risked damaging the real one...

...........and the three 'Tigers' in "Kelly's Heroes" had what looked to me like T-34 running gear and fore-mounted turrets.

Yeah, but they were sooooo much better than the M-47 tanks they used in Patton or The Battle of the Bulge to portray German tanks...but seeing the Bovington Tiger in Fury was a real treat!

Anytime you see any of them is a treat. That is the reason I enjoy the show in Va. The tanks actually run. Some not so well but they do run around the track.

Very cool! Static displays are always good, but moving/working tanks (and planes) are ALWAYS sooooo much better!

Seeing the Churchill clanking around a display area would be awesome.

Personally, I think the PT-76 should be in East German markings - a loving reminder of my time in West Berlin...

The "Tiger Room" is at the Tank Museum , Bovington. Great exhibits but the most sterile setting imaginable and way out of keeping with the rest of the museum

Great photos of the tiger room. Wish they hadn't moved al the tanks from Aberdeen. I did see a show where they fixed the Elephant so it could drive. They did a great job on it. The story behind it was that it was captured at Anzio. A lucky hit by a 37mm put it out of action when it hit the drive sprocket and it was abandoned.

Great photos, Carl! All the Cold War stuff is a stroll down Memory Lane - particularly the equipment used during the 1970s...and it all seems to be in gorgeous shape, by and large. From the track marks on the floor, it would seem that much of it still runs? I assume that where the 'ride tickets' might come in...

I look forward to seeing more as you have time to post - thanks for sharing these!

The one outside is the FSV (fire support vehicle) armed with a 76mm smooth bore gun, same turret as the Saladin armoured car.
