    Default New Pilot

Hi all My name is Darren (age 45) i live in York.
I am a big fan of aircraft from ww1 ever since i read and bought my first Biggles book many many years ago...i still own most of the biggles collection of books.
Depending on the snow the nice chaps at amazon should be delivering me a starter box tomorrow so hopefully i will be a fully fledged airman of the RFC in short order.
Do any fellow pilots live in York by any chance?
I never got round to learning to drive so traveling to meet up for games could be a problem so would be nice if anyone was local to me

    Hi Darren
Welcome to the madhouse that is the Forum!!!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask - there are a shedload of very knowledgeable Chaps on hand to offer help and advice!
And, they don't bite! Well, not often!

For gaming meets - not sure on York, though I wouldn't be surprised if there was someone local to you (we get everywhere!!). I only get up to Selby every so often visiting family.
Show wise - the group supports many shows around the country - including Vapnatak out on the Racecourse. We are also doing Hammerhead here in Newark on Saturday (ie. 3 stops down the ECML). Finally, there is an annual meet up at the Air Museum in Doncaster in September which is very well attended...
There is a thread elsewhere on this..

    Happy gaming!!

Welcome from Devon Darren - enjoy! Up where you are I guess they know how to deal with snow, so hopefully your delivery will come through ok. Down here we have one snowfall every ten years or so, which for us is an excuse to put on the slippers and do nothing until it goes away again

Bienvenue Darren from Brittany. Snowstorms not withstanding hope you can join us at Doncaster in September.
If you are short of people to play with you could take a look at our long standing solo campaign Over the Trenches . I"m sure there is room in one of the Mess halls for you if you wished to sign up.

At last I can formally welcome you on behalf of the rest of the Squadrons based here in Dear old Blighty.
Your Squadron Leader Chris "Hedeby" should be able to put you onto any members in the York area. Just drop him a PM.

Welcome to the Aerodrome from Arkansas over in the USofA! You will absolutely love it here! Very friendly chaps all around. For some reason they are OBSESSED with tiny planes? Not sure what that’s about.......

    Hello Darren,

Bit of a newbie, myself, but there's a few of us playing both World Wars in our group, which meets near to Northallerton once a month, or so. But the travel will obviously be an issue for yourself (as it is for me, as I don't drive). I did once attend a York wargames club meeting, that met at Guppy's Bar, Nunnery Lane, York - they had a wide range of interests, so maybe there's some players there. Hopefully you'll find some local opponents, as I know the pain when you can't find any.

Hi Darren, welcome to the Drome. My club is in Garforth in East Leeds and we meet on a Thursday evening and the first Sunday of the month. We do have a member who lives in York and attends regularly. If you are interested then I'm sure something could be arranged. We don't play Wings exclusively but it is one of our regular games as is Sails. PM me if you would like to discuss.

Welcome Darren, fairly new myself. This is a great forum and a great game. I recently met up with one of our guys for a game - it went right to the wire - really good fun (see the new players game post today). Hope you enjoy the game as much as I am.
