My friend and his lovely (but dangerous) daughter Kristine came by the other night and we made our first attempt at running a Wings of Glory WW2 game. Keeping this fairly simple the action involved a pair of He.III Bombers escorted by two Bf 109's headed for the English coast, angels 20, vector 143: the chain home radar station near Pevensey. Spitfires from RAF Kenley were scrambled to intercept.......
"Alles auf gefechtsstation"
"Achtung, Schpitfuer!"
Bombs off target - the Reichsmarschal will not be pleased!
Horrido! A Tommy goes into the sea
My friend and I took the Luftwaffe while the girls flew the Spitfires. Our first action was a clear cut victory for the RAF: both bombers made it through to the enemy coast but one was shot down (both pilots killed, crew bailed out) before it could release its bomb load. The second bomber dropped wide of the target and was driven off to the west. One Spitfire heavily damaged and forced to ditch in the channel, pilot was rescued.
A very enjoyable evening and an interesting change of pace from our usual WWI adventures, but the 'She Devils' came out on top again!
