Thread: Expanded BoB German Bombers?

    Default Expanded BoB German Bombers?

Now that we have the BoB craze running rampant throughout the world, does anybody know if Ares is planning to reprint their BoB HE-111 or, better yet, expand their German bomber line? I think it would be great to see either the JU-88 or DO-17...or BOTH...become available.

I'm also wondering if they plan to produce a set of London playing mats (as opposed to the folded posters); either two-piece set or a combined large version.

    Just curious...

Don't hold your breath Mike, the official Dornier Do 17Z and Junkers Ju 88A won't be along anytime soon.

If you paint I would suggest going to the Armaments in Miniature website here http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/armamen.../resin09mm.htm and buying some of Dave Schmid's excellent resin miniatures. You can get the Do 17Z for US$5 and Ju 88A for US$6. Buy some Wings of Glory Messerschmitt Bf 110 miniatures and you can use their bases for your Dorniers and Junkers as well - their wingspans are small enough to use the heavy fighter base. Unofficial stats are available in the file section - http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/dow...o=file&id=2136

Thanks, Carl. I'll have to look into these.

Another thing I've been trying to get my hands on is extra bomber flight stands. Can you recommend a source for those? I've not been very successful...

I have the LITKO medium and large Wings of War bases and both are ideal. The Aerodrome Store does have the better version as it comes with altitude discs.

Just a CAD image at the moment, release could be 6-9 months away.

I have three Do 17Z and a Do 17P but I’ll still buy six official Ares versions.

Could there be a medium bomber set on the way? We have heard rumours of an Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 and now a Dornier Do.17Z. What else might be coming?

A Betty and Wellington would also be nice but the two you mention are a good choice.

I'm encouraged that they say they are going to be reinforcing just the early war with the next wave. I think it is far better to be able to do a given theater reasonably well rather than getting bits and pieces all over the map and time frame. Yes, my cousin flew a P-38 and my uncle repaired Corsairs and Wildcats on Guadalcanal, so I really want those at some point, but being able to build a campaign holds more long term interest to me.

Yes, a Betty and a Wellington would be good choices, also a Boston.

A nice brace of German bomber to round off the BoB campaign would be nice.

HEIII reprint (BoB and possibly a Med variant) With the Wellington

Do17 (BoB and Med) With the Blenheim

JU88 (BoB and Winter) With the Mosquito

    Ah the pleasure of dreaming.

Cool. I'll need to have a handful of each!

Quick question, though... does the nose of the Do.17 look right...? Strikes me as looking more like a Do.217 nose. Might be splitting hairs, I know...

Since it appears that Ares is content with one WGS release per year this one will provide a buffer for me to track down more WoW Pacific planes and to fill out my Bolt Action armies. Keeping my fingers crossed for 2019!

The Do.17 Z-10 as shown on the picture is a version with more armament in the nose.
Ares plans to release another version (might be the regular one).
The Do.217 looks like the Z-10 but it has more powerful engine.

    Incredible !
The Ju.88 is the third plane of this bombers serie.
So, Two German bombers : Do.17 and Ju.88
Great scenarios for Bob and every western, eastern and mediterranean fronts.

    Published on Ares FB :
“The Junkers Ju.88 was one of the most versatile airplanes used by the Luftwaffe during World War 2, and the project we created for this airplane will allow us to release several versions, from A1 to A14, with different armaments. Scheduled for 2018, this new model is a great addition to the cycle we started with the release of our Battle of Britain Starter Set.”

I suspected as much, JU 88 seemed necessary to make the Battle of Britain reasonably covered and as a transition piece to help cover the post BoB German bombing needs within the game.

Time to start squirreling away for 2018 releases. Paying the bill will hurt momentarily but the pleasure these planes will bring will last decades.

I concur with what you're saying, but I have to ask ... is that an image of the Dornier 17Z ARES intends to produce to support their BOB campaign series? It looks like a night fighter. I would much prefer the earlier, more common "bubble-front" bomber. Or did I miss something in previous discussions?

Here is the answer of Ares about the Do.17 :
We will have different variants, here one is shown.

The Dornier Do.17Z-10 shown was a nightfighter version produced after the Battle of Britain was over. I trust that the other model will be a bomber version with a 'glazed nose'.

Nice planes! The Betty is as iconic to the PTO for the Japanese as any of their planes other than the Zero itself. I am sure once Ares shifts focus to the PTO for miniature releases, the Betty will have its spot as an official model. Personally, I hope to see the Betty, Nick, Oscar, Tojo, and Kate join the Japanese Forces at some point in the future.

Hmmm... While we wait for Ares to put out official versions, I wonder how close these will be? Perhaps a new maneuver deck?

There may need to be some house rules for this card.
The Bombardier can lock the front upper mg in place, and the pilot can fire it straight ahead, while the Bombardier fires the ventral front mg.
And you might consider the rear three arcs as a single position, picking one target per phase, rather than the 'normal' two phase move from position to position.

Yeah. A bit of REP was caught. Thankfully, the Do.17 has a bit of armor and self-sealing tanks.
