Default BrisWingsofGlory WGS Campaigns - Polish Air Force 1939-45

Last week I started a new series of Wings of Glory WW2 Face to Face campaigns at The Emperor's Legions game shop, 13A, Annerley Arcade, 478 Ipswich Rd, Annerley on Brisbane's southside. Games will mostly be run on Saturdays between 9.30am and 2pm. These campaigns will eventually touch all theatres of the war and enable players to fly as pilots of all the major (any many minor) combatant nations. The first of these campaigns follows the progress of the Polish Air Force from 1939 to 1945.

    Name: <acronym title=WGS PAFcampaign.jpg Views: 688 Size: 172.7 KB" style="float: CONFIG" />

Players start on 1 September 1939 defending Poland against the depredations of the mighty Luftwaffe. Pilots who survive this baptism of fire escape their doomed country and arrive in France where they can volunteer to fight as part of a 'Patrouille Polonaise' just in time against resist the German invaders. With the fall of France however the Polish airman retreat to the British Isles where they join the RAF. The Polish squadrons enter the fray as the Battle of Britain reaches a crescendo, taking every opportunity to punish the Luftwaffe for earlier defeats. The Polish pilots can then continue to fly with the RAF attacking Fortress Europe, join 'Skalski's Circus' in North Africa and eventually take the fight to the Germans in the skies over France, Norway and into the Reich itself.

    Name: <acronym title=WGS PAF title slide.jpg Views: 663 Size: 165.5 KB" style="float: CONFIG" />

The players begin flying the open cockpit PZL P.11c fighter over Poland, move on the Morane MS.406 and Dewoitine D.520 in France before taking to the skies in Hawker Hurricanes to defend England. In 1941 Hurricanes are replaced by Spitfire Mks. I and II and later by the Mk.V and eventually the Mk.IX. For those that make it to April 1945 they will transition to the Mustang Mk.IVa which they fly for the last few weeks until VE Day. For those who wish to make the switch they can even leave Britain to travel to the Soviet Union and fly Yaks with the Red Air Force!

    Name: <acronym title=WGS Polish Decorations.jpg Views: 634 Size: 183.6 KB" style="float: CONFIG" />

Throughout the campaign service and success will see pilots promoted and decorated with medals and awards by their homeland .....

    Name: <acronym title=WGS French Decorations.jpg Views: 652 Size: 185.0 KB" style="float: CONFIG" />

..... as well as the foreign air forces with which they fly.

    Name: <acronym title=WGS RAF Decorations.jpg Views: 636 Size: 235.9 KB" style="float: CONFIG" />

For simplicity's sake the campaign will use the latest Battle of Britain Starter Set basic, advanced and optional rules as appropriate for each campaign mission. There will be a short 'campaign ruleset' addendum to deal with wounded pilots, damaged aircraft, bailing out, escaping enemy territory and other matters not covered by the official Ares products.

    Name: <acronym title=WGS Campaigns Victory Points.jpg Views: 638 Size: 242.4 KB" style="float: CONFIG" />

The campaign ruleset will include the accumulation of 'victory points' that determine the victorious side in individual scenarios and can be used to 'purchase' replacement aircrew, aircraft and reinforcements.

During the campaign players will pit their pilots against 'NPC' aircrew run by Campaign Moderators and other players, or against other player pilots flying for the 'other side'.

If anyone in the Brisbane area is interested in joining in these campaigns please post on this thread, PM me or contact Paul at The Emperor's Legions on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/The-Emperor...s-128204896668

If any members have a preference for a WGS campaign (North Africa, Eastern Front, Pacific, Spanish Civil War) let me know so I can start the ball rolling for that theatre of war.

Thanks Barry. We are starting out small, I had five players last weekend - two flying as the Poles and three providing opposition forces. As time goes we will gather more players and start more campaigns. I am photographing the action so will start uploading AARs this weekend.

Hi Phil, I think we played together when I ran the Wings of War 1917-18 campaign back in 2009.

It would be great to catch up and have another bash. Do you still play out at Ipswich?

Great stuff here, Carl! Looks like a fun and historical way to get into a series of connected games - and I must say I just love the graphics you've come up with here Your header picture of the PZL and 109 is gorgeous, and your subsequent information sheets add splendidly to the mood you are setting for the campaign. I wish you much success!

    All the best,
    Matt

Thanks Dave & Dave. I will start posting AARs this weekend - the early missions did not go well for the Polish airmen but they fought bravely to the last!

It's all good Wayne, unfortunately this weekend's action was cancelled due to work commitments, but skies appear clear next Saturday.

Just a heads up for the Brisbane based players, Paul Hannouf at Emperor's Legions has ordered a large quantity of WW1 and WW2 aircraft which should be delivered by the end of the week, including WW1 duel packs with 'lite' rules, playing pieces and A damage decks, as well as the new WW1 Series 3 reprints.

For those interested the Polish Air Force campaign will be continuing this Saturday morning from 0930hrs.

It was pretty good, I didn't realise had many aircraft they had there. They run the open cockpit event every year. No photos unfortunately.

Polish Campaign Mission 7 AAR is posted - http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...-Force-1939-45

The campaign has reached 10 May 1940, desperate times for the French Air Force and their Polish Allies.

A shout out to any Brisbane Australia based players that I am running a Wings of Glory WW2 game (Sedan bridgehead 1940) at The Emperor's Legions shop at Annerley (on Facebook) in the morning from 9.30am. We are looking for more players to run RAF fighters or bombers and Luftwaffe fighters. Aircraft are supplied, just looking for more pilots! We have 7 players so far but another 3-5 would not go astray - I am hoping to have 20+ aircraft on the table for this mission.

Reply post if you are interested and invite any others you think might be able to make it.

With other commitments impacting on player availability we did not get the numbers we originally wanted for the Sedan bridgehead mission. Nevertheless the game was run yesterday with five players flying ten aircraft.

AAR to be posted in due course - it was a 'fiery' exchange!

Hope it is going great and best wishes for it to run smoothly in the upcoming future. Looks like a great idea! Rep going out for the organization of the campaign as well!

EDIT: My bad, looks like I need to "spread the rep around" before I put the rep on this post. Once I figure out what the hell I am doing, rep will go out.

Thanks Oleksandr the campaign is going well, just finished the 10th mission on Sunday. As the action moves from France 1940 (6 more missions) to the Battle of Britain I think a few more players will join the Polish Squadron.

If you play it they will come.....

As much fun as the solo campaigns are you can't beat the face to face Wings experience. But it does require an investment of time on the part of the campaign moderator to get it up and running - good thing I enjoy the game so much!!

Next Saturday morning 19/08/2017 we are planning a big mission for the Polish Campaign. The date will be 3 June 1940 and the Luftwaffe is launching Operation Paula, raids on French airfields, railways and other vital installations in and around Paris. In addition to the usual campaigners I am looking to recruit 2-3 players to run another flight of French fighters and at least 3 more players to assist with Luftwaffe bomber and fighter forces. If any Brisbane based members are available reply post on this thread, and if you have mates that would like to jump in bring them along.

Nine players for a Saturday morning stoush at the FLGS was pretty good. And I had apologies from a few more due to family and sport commitments. The proprietor Paul is pretty happy too as he sold a BoB Starter and another dozen aircraft miniatures over the weekend.

The newer players are running OPFOR or friendly NPC aircraft to gain some experience before they field their own pilots as campaign aircrew. I have a feeling as the campaign moves to the Battle of Britain in a few weeks we will see a dramatic increase in player participation.

My PC is in the shop at the moment so I won't be able to upload the AAR until the end of next week, but it was an action packed engagement.

Warning order for Polish campaign mission 13 on Saturday 26 August - start about 0930hrs. Depending on how we go we might be able to fit in a couple of games. Mission 14 will see the action move to the south as France faces an Italian invasion!

Hello campaigners, I must apologise but there will be no Polish campaign missions flown today at Emperors Legions as I am working.

Next Saturday however will be a big one, we will try and get three missions done to finish up the French campaign.

Just to confirm campaign missions are on at Emperor's Legions this Saturday morning from 0930hrs.

Mission 14 takes place on 8 June 1940 and will see the Polish Flight escorting French bombers conducting an armed reconnaissance near Rouen, just as the spearhead of General Rommel's 7th Panzer Division with Luftwaffe support approaches the city.

Following an enforced three month hiatus due to my working away from home base, the WGS Polish Campaign re-started last weekend with the first Battle of Britain mission.

I still have two Battle of France AARs to upload from back in September, then I will post the latest mission results.
