Thanks for the update. I saw the movie about the Hunley. Horrible end for two crews if I remember rightly.
Been interested in the Hunley since 1961 when the Life magazine centennial magazines hooked a young Canadian kid on all things ACW

I remember watching the movie about the Hunley many years ago.
I saw this story but remember that years ago they removed the remains and buried the bodies, with full military honors, in a cemetery in Charleston. I know one artifact they found was a coin that the Lt had that deflected a bullet. I can check with a friend that belongs to the Hunley foundation.
At least two -- it was known as "the peripatetic coffin" for a reason....
Reminds me: I need to some more research on my alternate Battle of Hampton Roads, where the Rebels figure out rebuilding _Merrimac_ is a Bad Idea, and instead crank out a brace of _Albemarle_-class designs; see what happens when _Monitor_ is confronting 4-5 targets at once....
