    Default Hello there!

    Hello, I just joined yesterday.

    I went into a charity shop and happened to see 4 Wings of war planes in their original boxes. I had tried it once with my brother, wife and niece at Dragon Meet last year and fancied trying it, but had already got a lot of Star Trek Attack Wing. However, when I saw the 4 planes for £4 each, I couldn't say no. After I could home, i realised I'd need a starter set. Not the easiest thing to find as there isn't a set called a 'starter set'. My local FLGS said that I needed a starter set, but didn't have any more info than that. In the end, worked out that it was either accessories pack, or one of the Duel packs was needed. I found one of the Dual packs for slightly less than the accessory pack.

    My friends are looking forward to playing a game. Although we like Attack wing, sometimes we just want to fly and not have to worry about various upgrades etc.

    So now I have 6 planes, and a starter set. As I was reading through the book, I realised that there is another type of damage deck and that some planes use a different damage deck, is this right? Should I have got the accessory pack instead?

    Thanks.

    Hi Gaius, welcome to the 'Drome!

    4 planes for £4 each - result!

    Yes, some planes use a different Damage Deck, the 'B' representing a single machine gun, as opposed to the more common twin gun 'A' deck you will find in your Duel Pack.

    No matter - if you go on to purchase a RAP (Rules and Accessories Pack) you will have all the decks, rules, counters and options to play a wide range of scenarios.
    As a bonus, you can add your Duel Pack 'A' deck to the 'A' deck found in the RAP to form a double-deck; this will allow 8 - 10 or so 'A' gunned planes to fly/fight in a single engagement, where a single 'A' deck would be insufficient.

    6 planes is a great start - do let us know how you get on!
    Have a nose around the Forum - there is a wealth of great stuff here to help you get started; ask any questions you may have - we're a friendly bunch, who will be only too glad to help.

    Fly safe, and always watch your Six!

    Bienvenue Gaius What was the address of that Charity shop ,,,

    As Tim said a B deck is for single guns from earlier planes or for 2 seaters which you might want to buy at a later date to broaden you scenario base.

    Enjoy your time playing the game , it can be fun with 6 or 60 planes.

    Good afternoon Gaius, and now I can give you a formal welcome to the Drome on behalf of all the U.K. squadrons.
    Did you get my welcome message and Wingman request O.K. as some messages seem to be going astray recently?

    (welcoming head bobs) from the lizard.

    To further expand on what Tim said:
    yes, twin gunned-mounts, mostly on fighters, but there are also several on two-seaters, and the larger bombers use the A deck;
    single-gunned mounts use the B deck; these mounts are mostly on the two-seaters or the bombers (a few are to be found on the earlier fighters, particularly on the Allied early fighters);

    There is also a C deck, used by large-caliber anti-aircraft guns, and for resolving aircraft collisions. (AA machineguns also use an A or B deck, like the aircraft mounts);
    And a D deck, used rarely for rocket-firing aircraft against balloons

    These latter two decks are to be found in the Rules & Accessories Pack. The game, being scenario-driven, is entirely satisfactory without the need for these, but if you want the full range of options, I would highly recommend the RAP.

    Gaius, a warm welcome to the aerodrome from Cape Cod. Sounds like you found a bargain. Tim is spot on, RAP is the way to go. Enjoy the site, there is much to discover.

    Welcome to the Aerodrome, Gaius, from here near Norwich. You certainly found a bargain in that charity shop.

    As a temporary measure, until you can afford to buy a Rules and Accessories Pack, for aircraft requiring a B damage deck (single gun) draw cards from the A damage deck and halve the damage points (rounding odd half points down). Special Damage conditions still apply. It will not be the same as using a proper B deck but it is better than nothing.

    Yes, I did get your message, but what is a wingman request for and what does it do?

    Gaius, I have unfortunately greeted you on your first thread, by raining all over your parade. (Link: Can WW1 planes and WW2 planes be used in the same game?)

    Sorry about that.

    Usually, we are a helpful and encouraging group. It wasn't the first time the thought has come up, and won't be the last. Please don't stop pushing the envelope and coming up with suggestions. Not all of them will be rained on. Besides, rain helps some things grow, if not planes (Too bad, that!).
