Thread: Heinkel He.111H-3 (Stab./KG53) - Where to Find?

Default Heinkel He.111H-3 (Stab./KG53) - Where to Find?

I recently picked up the Battle of Britain starter set to add to my (slowly growing) Wings of Glory collection, but I've been finding it really tough to source a lot of the additional products. The Heinkel He.111H-3 (Stab./KG53) in particular is still evading me, and I'm hoping to find two to use for the BoB scenarios. Does anyone know if there's a site out there that still has these in stock, or if there's a re-release on its way?

    Thanks ahead of time!

Best most quick way is to buy two white He.111 from Aerodrome Acessoires as long as they are available, get some decals (1/144 direct) and repaint them.

    S,
First off, welcome to the 'Drome! You should consider checking in on the Canadian Wing thread to announce your entry into a great hobby.

Unfortunately, the H-3 is a bit tough to find, even at very high prices. At this point it would be someone getting out of the hobby selling on evilBay. The H-5 was just coming out toward the end of the Battle of Britain, so it is a valid plane. The paint scheme would be more appropriate for the winter of 1941, though.

I haven't heard of any reprint dates for the He.111, but someone on the 'drome may have a rumour to share.

I obviously need to update this thread: Canadian Wing - Roll Call - September 2016

It is now over six months out of date. There are a few players in Edmonton, if you try to PM them, you might get someone to play with you, that has the bombers.

Great! Thank you for the suggestion and for the links to the decals, this could be an option as the white paint schemes seem to be available in quite a few places still. If I find anything out about somewhere still having a bit of stock, I'll post back here as well.

And I'll definitely need to check in on the Roll Call topic, I'm in the Edmonton area and just recently got into the game.

Can't go wrong with this choice.

Plane card and armament are the same, I think.

A kind warning to all those who plan to repaint the white He 111. I tried to do it once and will never try again. The model is now in fragments never to be assembled again. The problem is the white colour in the cockpit and under the dorsal mg. It is impossible to repaint those places without dismounting the canopies. Leaving them white makes a terrible effect IMHO.
I'd rather buy (what I really did) an AIM Heinkel model and paint in. Cheaper, faster, easier.

Means no base, no pegs, no plane cards, no movment deck, no target/bomb cards, no tokens...

Of course, but they may be outsourced from another He mini.

    Right.

Maybe he can buy the stuff from your ruined He.111?

    Just joking.

I remember that once I lost a complete Wing of a He.111, but was able to glue it again.

...and you're right the white under the glas of the upper gun position and under the cockpit needs to be painted, too.

Evan at rivalsky.com.au has one on his website for $64.95 AUD. Not sure about postage costs to Canada though.

Not to dis RivalSky, but the cost in AUS dollars, and postage, might be steep.

This version is on sale, however: Aerodrome Accessories.com- Heinkel He.111 H-5 1.Kg53
Even with the exchange rate and postage, and probably Customs, it might be worth trying for this option.

    So this may make you squeamish . . . I went through a few He-111's one weekend . . . close encounter with a band saw . . .

The goal was not to destroy them, but I came close . . .

    Back then they were giving them away . . . so . . .

    Needed something to tow a glider or two . . . or four . . .

Still working out the card off of asymmetric bases . . .

This could be why they are so rare today . . . had no problem with repainting the white ones . . . : )

Not an option to put a mounting point under the center engine?

Only you could come up with the tow version of the He 111. Outstanding job as always.

Our own Kevin--MISCMINI-- has decals for KG53. I have used a number of his sets and they come out great.

I second the "use the white" version as a proxy and use BOB cards.

Just this week bagged two of these from amazon wrongly listed as He.11 for under £30. One has arrived and is most definatly the green camo H-3, the other is listed as being so. Try searching for odd spelling of item.

Picked up three this week on ebay.

Mis-spelt the same way, maybe the same seller?

There are a couple on Amazon, so I may have to resort to this - then repaint it for Battle of Britain.

I'd really like to find one of the green ones...

Add me to the list. Looking desperately for one or two of these (in the green paint job) and can't find it anywhere.

I'm looking for these too. I've only been in this game about 6 weeks, but it looks to me that this may be the rarest plane they've released.
