Nice AAR. I like those round crash in flames markers too. I also love the Me110. It looks menacing yet graceful. The luftwaffle triumphed again

This was only my second time flying a Bf110, and I must say I like it a lot!

Plenty more of 'em are in my repaint queue.....................................

I like to fly the Bf.110, too.

Nice huge setup for this mission.

How many players and how many time had this game?

PM if you can and I'll send my new email address to you. Cheers in Advance (Think of Doncaster).

    Didn't think about it, sorry!

Sifting through the rubble, I should say that it probably survived intact - the factory and the docks got flattenend; the chip shop was probably on the outskirts..................

The "Armada" shot was just for display (and fun!) - it drew a lot of attention, and a couple of players................

There were 4 German players (3 with a Bf109 each, and myself running the bombers and my Bf110).
Most folks wanted to be Brits - we started with 5, each with a single Spitfire or Hurricane, and a few (no Pun intended) dropped out when shot down, to be replaced by new arrivals; there never seemed to be a shortage of targets for the Luftwaffe!

The game lasted a little over 2 1/2 hours all told; it was my first time "running" a WW2 game, and only my 5th as a player! That inexperience, combined with taking all the photos and coaching new arrivals slowed things a bit, but everyone seemed to have a good time.

    Glad you liked it, Mike!

We ended up not running any Stukas - they were there just for display. Had we got a couple more RAF players, I would have activated them, but we all had our hands full as it was!

Great AAR Tim, really well done. I had the same issue with players at Briscon - I just could not rally enough in one place to get more than about dozen aircraft on the map at any one time. There is always next year. If I could give you more rep I would

Ah, OK. The reason I asked is that I've just received MY BoB package and am planning on hosting an Eagle Day scenario in a month or so portraying a Stuka raid against a radar site on the English coast.

You could not "get more than a dozen"? Heck, that's GOOD! I haven't been able to rally more than HALF that number so far for my WWI games. Granted, I haven't tried a convention, but our gaming group can crowd a table with a dozen players when motivated ... I had them crawling out of the woodwork for my last ACW game. What's your secret?

For WW2 I always allow each player to take more than one aircraft, for fighters 2 planes and bombers 3 planes each. So for the Channel convoy raid I ran at Briscon I had three German players - 2 running 2 109's each and 1 running 3 Stukas - and three RAF players running 2 Hurricanes or Spitfires each. So only 6 players, but 13 aircraft.

The most I have ever had at one table was for a WGF game in 2010 - 22 players flying one aircraft each. That was at a club game day with plenty of prior warning.

    22 players ... that's amazing.

Three Stukas wasn't overwhelming for one player? I can see three bombers, since they're generally flying in formation, but I can never keep my brain wrapped around more than two planes at a time. I'll have to try multiple planes per player once everybody's had a few more "flight hours" under their belts. Maybe for my upcoming Eagle Day scenario.

    Thanks for the input, Carl.

I ran the three Stukas. I was attacking ships in convoy and the Stukas job was to get in, drop their eggs and get out. I lost one but the other two made it back.

WGS can be far more deadly than WGF which is another reason why more than one aircraft per person is a good idea, otherwise it can be a short game for some.

Gotcha. I haven't even played it yet ... in fact, other than opening one of each, my boxes are all still shrink-wrapped!

Originally, having been bitten by the SoG and WGF bug, the last thing I intended to do was get involved in WGS. Then ARES turned around and announced their Battle of Britain starter set ... (sigh) ......

RAF would have attacked as a group not piece meal. That why the lost this battle.

Partly that, and partly owing to the attraction of dogfighting with the escorts! Much more fun than bomber chasing.

A formation of 4x He.111 bombers is hard to knock down.

As well if you're attacking with 2 or 3 planes at once.

Another excellent report Tim, caught the action nicely.
I did try to keep the Hurricanes concentrated on the He111s, but the pesky 109s kept interfering, plus the bombers en bloc put out a withering fire if you get it wrong and try to fly through them!

I hosted a scenario for that: AAR - Skype Game - Battle of Britain, RAF Stn Ventnor

Playing surface was 3.5'wx4'l (images taken lengthwise). Available for flight, if more people logged in, could have been 6 Bf-109s, 2 Ju-87s, up to 6 Hurricanes, and up to 4 Spitfires. Could have been messy. I used fabric for a playing surface for better visibility on the webcam, as all the guest players were on Skype.

That seems to be the key; fly the fighters around the edge of the "box", concentrating fire and nibbling at the planes on the edges..................
The two consecutive "BOOM" chits from the same Heinkel rear gunner certainly didn't help!
