Reg, I checked it.
The max. speed & altitude for the B29 is 576 km/h & 9.150 m. Yokosuka has 550 km/h & 10.700 m.
You're right, that during a dayraid the Judy has no chance to get one of the superfortresses.
Nightraids differ often in altitude & speed and there was no formation flight.
The numbers of shot down US bombers with nightfighters during nightraids over Japan is very limited too, so if you say that the Judy was in general no danger for them it's correct.
But I point at some intersting facts, that improvement was always made, for example the Germans try to shot down some Mosquitos with a special fuel and intercept techniques during the nightfights over Europe.
As far as I know the Japanese army airforce converted only a few Judies with the "Schräge Musik". I can imagine that the try to get some results with drop tanks, reduced weight etc. to bring this plane to any success.
By the way. The caliber of a Webley revolver is 0.455 - that's nearly a .50 cal.
Will be happy to meet you again in Doncaster, Reg.
