    Default Play by email game

    Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of starting another play by email campaign which i did a few years ago. Looking at starting with early war again with around 20 players but will gauge interest first. Once i have enough players I will be looking to start around Easter hols with the game lasting 12 turns.
Players will need to email their orders once a week and then once I have completed the turn then I'll send turn photos out so people know what happened. I'll email everyone the rules and details of their planes before we start the game.
Any one interested can pm me and we'll go from there?

    Cheers

    Mark

Mark, please include me when you run your game. I would love to have the opportunity to be shot down once again by friends here.

Did this campaign ever get off the ground? If not, when it does I'd like to give it a go...

I don't think it is going on at the moment. I am also waiting patiently for this to start.

Mark says he'll be in touch when he's able to continue this. I've played in a couple of them and they're good fun.

I've been in a few and have to say playing in one of these is great fun. On the other side, I ran one and it is a lot of work! When I retire I will run more but because of the time involved I won't run these till then.

Hm, missed this when it came around in March. Since this is posted in the WW 1 portion of the Aerodrome, I assume we're talking about "early" WGF. Never hurts to be sure, though. Yes/No?

ETA: I tried the PM, and got the message:
chequers has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space.

So, is anyone else organizing (Flash, pursuant to your post above), or is it simply a matter of wait and see?

    Hey, life happens.

If another play by e-mail does run, I should like to join in. The problem is finding someone who has the time and a vacant room to run it.

What we really need is someone to make a Vassal Module for WoG. Permission to use the artwork on this site is probably a must, to save time with artwork.
I was working on a graphic-driven system using CorelDraw a few years back. Having gotten the new version in the PC last month, I will start working on it again.
Maybe I can get it running this spring.

Play by mail sounds interesting. I could set up a playing table in the basement. But I would start in a smaller scale - maybe about 6 players maximum.

    How is the overall process:
    1. Who decides where are the starting positions?
    2. What about situations when there are multiple possible targets?
    3. Isn't the originator advantaged, as he could measure his maneuvers better than the other participants?
    4. How long is the interval between the maneuvers with 12 turns? I assume a participant have a week to decide his three maneuvers, but then a game would last for months.
    5. Are the altitude rules commonly used?

If you are running the game, you are the impartial moderator, not playing any of the planes, unless your scenario has robo-bombers.
In the games I've played, 3 days was allowed for a move to be emailed to the moderator.
The moderator comes up with the scenario, plane placement etc.
Altitude was used in all of them.

David, thank you for the rules. It's a good starting point. Maybe I organise a fast "play by telegram" with my clique first, for training purposes.

Here is a short GIF-summary of our "play by Telegram"-scenario:

Next time I will use a simpler mat, for easier recognition of the planes.

Hm, the system let me upload the gif-file, but transforms it into a jpg.

I've not been able to make contact with Mark who ran this campaign, his last activity was fairly recent but he has not posted since he created this thread.
I believe real life got in the way and I've been told he has sold off some of his kit by another club member who purchased same.
I'm unlikely to see him now as I've moved away from the area but if I do I will see if he's up for hosting this again.

Very tough to see planes & gauge distances with that background Florian, Mark used a plainer background so that the machines were more visible, plus he marked them with their identifier & their Alt but he did also fill the battle space !
