Chatos done, results posted here - http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...918#post437918
Just primed a couple of Fiat CR.32s.
Checked your other post and great job on them. Have to finish mine.
Awesome Carl. I also have 2 I-16's to do. As you had them for some time. Again thanks for the inspiration.
Nice collection of RAF bombers there John.
Now I have finished my last Spanish Civil War fighters.....
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...297#post438297
....I have eight bombers on the workbench, two Vichy French (Martin 167F) and six Regia Aeronautica (BR.20 and SM.79).
Nice work on these bombers John.
Yellowstone was my workbench this month. This is what I created, Jackson hole is awesome!

I managed to finish painting the Great Ape from Crooked Dice this weekend - it's a beautiful miniature with loads of detail and character, even down to Kong's broken left lower canine tooth!
Now I've begun working on a 3-D building top to perch him on, one that will let him 'move' around during the game to vary where he's standing and attacking/defending from against those pesky flying things...more on that as it coalesces. I have the paper template for it but will be cutting it out of plastic card stock this week.
I look forward to running a King Kong scenario at our next Wright Flight gaming day in April.
All the best,
Matt
That really is a "great!" ape!
Very well done, Matt!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Making progress on the building top from which the Great Ape will swat planes 'outta tha sky'...
I had some plastic stock sitting around, waiting to be useful, so I cobbled together a design and started cutting and gluing. Here is an 'upper' view of the building top - still need to add to the spire and put a few more details on before priming and painting.
Here is more of a side-on view to show the angle of the roof sections - I figure these will make it look like the beast is climbing around, given the pose the figure is originally in. Each panel will have a pair of holes drilled in it to allow Kong to be moved and 'inserted' securely as his position changes throughout the game.
Here is Kong's 'home base' for resting in the display cabinet when he's not carousing around the building top during a game - I angled it to approximate the building's top to show him 'in action'...it, too, has two holes into which the figure fits securely.
I went with a 5-sided building top so that I can use a D6 (I know, Tim, NO DICE!!) to determine where he moves each phase. I plan to use two different colored dice - one will determine whether he goes clockwise or counter-clockwise, and the other to determine how many 'spaces' (roof panels) he moves. If Kong rolls a 5 or 6, he stays put; any other number takes him that many panels in the appropriate direction.
Thanks for looking!
All the best,
Matt
As always great stuff by all.
Worked on some other things but nothing special so waiting for an order from AIM to start next month off with some planes.
That is really COOL!!! Wish I could be there to play that game...
A couple of Shapeways planes in the pipeline nearing completion. My first time working with them - they have their advantages and challenges.
First up, an Se5a portraying 56 Squadron Arthur Rhys Davids' mount at the time of Voss; final battle:
Second, the first successful Zeppelin hunter, Leefe Robinson's BE2c:
A few more details, some flat spray to seal it all in, and they'll show up on the gaming table soon!
FUD is much smoother, and semi translucent but it is quite brittle compared to WSF.
I tend to get my WGF planes in WSF for its resiliance, I don't trust FUD struts not to shatter if dropped.
As WGS planes are mostly monoplanes, but do have full canopies I go FUD and don't paint the glass.
FUD left bare gives a good enough window effect for me, but everyones tastes are different.
Lest we forget
I recently got a couple of AE Models J2M Raidens in FUD; Foz's single seat prints usually don't have a lot of surface detail (panel lines, prominent canopy frames, etc.), but a steady hand with a green fine point Sharpie worked fine for canopy frames on the Jacks--the marker's color is dark enough to match Tamiya IJN Green perfectly.
Work bench is full. Want to get 30 done in 30 days. Finished a SSW D.III and 2 Fok D.VII for Jasta 15 bringing a total of 6 planes for J15. A blue fuselage 38 ESC Spad XIII. Now to knock out some Brits for Bloody April started painting 2 FE2s, 2 BE2s, 1 Elephant, 1 BE12, an older Vickers Gunship, just need to decal 3 Fok Es and 2 Fokker D.I/IIs.
Similar to John I intend to clear my backlog before Briscon on 28 April. Projects are as follows:
- 2 Vichy French Martin 167F bombers (Shapeways FUD)
- 3 Spanish Civil War Savoia-Marchetti SM79 Sparviero bombers (AIM)
- 3 Italian Fiat BR20 Cicogna bombers
- 2 Polish PZL.11 fighters (Shapeways FUD)
- 4 Australian Curtiss P.40E Kittyhawks (AIM)
- 4 Australian North American P-51D Mustangs (AIM)
- 1 Luftwaffe Junkers Ju.88A bomber (Zvezda)
- 1 Luftwaffe Junkers Ju.52 transport (Zvezda)
- 2 Tupolev SB2 bombers (Zvezda)
Add to that about 50 battlemechs I have to base up properly and a dozen tanks to paint. I have my work cut out.
Looks like both of you are running an assembly line. Used to do that with my 1/72 armor. Can't wait to see the final products.
Just before month's end, I have finally managed to get a handful of planes onto my workbench.
4 BE2s for "Bloody April"; just hope I can finish them before the end of April!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Received an order from AIM the other day so that is on the work bench for next month. Working on them now so will have them done for the next installment of What's On Your Workbench" or as the internet news headlines would say WOYW.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
as promised at the start of this thread: two Fokker G.1 Heavy Fighters of 3. JaVA, Royal Netherlands Army Air Force, based at Waalhaven Airbase, May 1940.
It did take a bit of time ... but still ready within the month of April 2017 ... and luckily ... not the whole of the month was spent painting
For some more info on their operational record look here: http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...tch-Wing/page3 (post #145)
I hope you like them,
cheers,
Guus

for what you do to promote the Dutch historical aviation, Guus.
Early War is my favourie period of WWII as far as planes are concerned and you fill the gap in models range perfectly.
Have you thought about employing any elves to improve your production quantities? Look at clipper's factory. They perform really well when disciplined.
Rep guns jammed.

Hey Andrej,
glad you like the planes, more to come ...

that may well be so, but ... in my experience elves tend to look at their "Elf-leader" for discipline ... so ... in my case ...

Really nice planes Guus with a great paint job.
It is nice to see planes other than the usual and nice to see planes from, for many of us, an overlooked airforce in a too short lived campaign.
and my rep gun aint jammed.
Lest we forget
Glad you like them John ... and ... thanks for the reputation points
next up will be an even more unlucky plane from this campaign ... and it's not a Fokker ...
cheers,
Guus

Guus outstanding job. I really like the paint jobs you put on your planes. They look like they came out of the factory yesterday.
More progress on King Kong's building top - I think it's where I want it now. Heightened the spire with a couple of plastic tubing pieces I had lying around, and capped it with a straight pin from SWMBO's sewing basket. I used some MagicSculpt 2-part epoxy putty to finish some of the joints and corners. You can see the holes I've drilled on each of the five roof sections to mount Kong as he switches from spot to spot. They should basically disappear once it's painted - I placed the holes in the grooves that form the pattern on each roof section.
This long shot shows the ape mounted on the roof top, ready to knock some planes out of the air...
...and this close-up shows more details...
I am looking forward to priming and painting the building this weekend and in the coming week - have to get it ready for gaming at our gathering next Saturday!
That means the finished product will be making an appearance on the April's Workbench thread...
All the best,
Matt
