Thread: Curious Comics Nanaimo Hosts Wings of Glory

Default Curious Comics Nanaimo Hosts Wings of Glory

Today, I drove down the highway to Nanaimo to put on a demo of Wings of Glory for the FLGS Curious Comics.

Set-up in the Country Club Mall:

Me, trying to scare away any potential players:

(Image from Arie at Curious) Note: Snoopy did attract some interest, but only from some 6-8 year-old female soccer players. Not really interested in the actual game.

The demo board (I only brought Duel Pack planes today):

Me, shooting down Don, my first of two customers on the day, in our first game:

(Image from Arie at Curious) Don flew the Camel, and I flew von Richthofen.

Payback. Don riddled my SPAD, and I couldn't get a bead on his D.Va. Even the shots I did get on him were not effective.

Even Don having two gun jams didn't help. He lit me up, and before he could finish me off with bullets, the flames took me out.

I had another afternoon session with a fellow gamer from Comox, who came down to Nanaimo to play. We each took a victory with the two games we played. A few curious people stopped by to ask question about the game, and we regaled them with WWI history and aviation stories, as well as a few tips on the game.

Thanks to Mike and Arie from Curious Comics for their support and organizing the day, and to the Country Club Center staff (Tables, chairs and appropriate coloured table cloths provided by the Center), who were very friendly and supportive, too. Shameless plug: Kudos to Kaldi Cafe for their tasty sustenance.

Good on you, Mike, for getting out there and taking it to 'em.

Great Mike. Seems to be a difficult sell in this part of the world

Keep going, this event was not a fail. At least people know there is a game like this one

Sorry I missed it! Unfortunately, that mall is not very busy these days, but hopefully you put the game on some people's radar.

Any other plans to come to Nanaimo? Maybe MosaicCon this fall?

    Brian,
Up until this month, and the release of the latest WGS minis, I was planning to demo the new Battle of Britain Starter Set at the Free Comic Book Day event at the Country Club Centre on 6 May 2017. This was to be in support of Curious Comics and Ares WGS.

I can't, in good continence, demo a game for which I have fallen out of favour. I may still demo WGF, but I'm still struggling with my feelings about the overview of Ares and their quality control. I may withdraw from any future demos at any cons or public events. Still mulling this whole thing over.

There will be demos for WGF at InCON 2017 in Courtenay, over the 21-23 April weekend, but again, any WGS appearance has been scrubbed.

What in particular has brought you to this state of mind?

A sad news, Mike, but I can understand your attitude in a way.
