    Default Nightbomber's Historical Quiz

Let the (hard) fun begin, chaps.

I want to thank you all for the good I received here in this gang of Forum friends.

The winner of the Quiz will get the prizes I mentioned here:

    The rules of engagement:

I am going to take you through the ages of my country's history.

    1. Identify the event or battle from Polish history depicted on the paintings. Identiifcation means: The event/battle and a year it happened in just one sentence.

    2. The first full set of answers in email sent to: nightbomber.as@gmail.com counts. Please do not PM through Forum mailbox.

    3. I will send the box with prizes worldwide, free of charge.

Number Five has me stumped - ah well, better minds than mine......I shall keep looking!

Great stuff here, Andrzej - interesting historical details about your homeland - some I was already familiar with, and others I knew nothing about!

    All the best,
    Matt

You must have a much better Google than me David. I only managed to identify 1. and 4. and had taken so much time (started late anyway) on those two that I gave up on the rest. It was an interesting exercise though..

I know it must have been an issue for my AU-NZ friends, but it could not be fixed - I am very sorry, Barry!

Two minutes, sorry about that! That sure was close, you should not have stopped for lunch! I didn't think I had a chance as I didn't start until ~10:30 EST.

Thanks Andy for a challenging contest! When I found the answer to #5 I was pleasantly surprised. The city next to where I grew up has a Pulaski Hall in honor of one of the heroes of the American Revolution. When I was young there was a large Polish community there.

Well done Peter Pulaski was indeed a hero of the Revolution, ( or minor dispute amongst the Colonies ) and as we Trekkers know the Chief medical officer on the NCC1701 D

Thanks to all who participated or just read the thread.
I am happy I could draw your attention to some paintings and events we cherish here and that - surprisingly - have some international dimension like Pułaski's death.

What worries me is that Peter will judge my mediocre painting skills on this Me 163 . Having seen his paintjobs this year in real I just can not compete...

Congratulations Peter. I looked and did get 1,4,6. Thought 5 was the war with Sweden because of the type of uniforms. I looking for the answers I now know why Poland was so fought over. Seems everyone want a piece of the Grand Duchy.

The first naval engagement of the AWI is claimed by my hometown of Fairhaven. There is still standing the old Fort Phoenix that protected the opening to Fairhaven and New Bedford harbor. (then called Dartmouth) In this first battle two ships were recovered from the British and some prisoners taken. Of course the British did not take kindly to this and soon after took the fort and torched New Bedford.

Your ME 163s and 262s are inspiring and have probably helped sales for those models....which I now have to get. Thanks for helping spend my $!

Answered correctly but realized after I sent them that I missed adding the date on a few.
By the time I started it was already over anyway, but it was an interesting exercise.

Congrats, Peter - enjoy that Komet!

Does winning this contest get me a 'Contest winner' medal?

I think the winner should host the next contest so I will put one together for a February quiz date.
