Bruce, I am play-testing with permission of Andrea [Angiolillo], the WoW/WoG Game Designer. So, no, there are no published rules available at this time.
He may allow others to play-test, and he will, no doubt, comment on that here on this thread. Stand-by.
Are you doing anything on Saturday? You could come up and visit Courtenay. I'll buy you lunch?
Games & Grounds (Link: Games & Grounds.com/) is hosting another demo/play-test on Saturday, 29 October at 11 AM.

Just back here again and a new company picked up the AQMF mini's. IRONCLAD GAMES.
Since this is a hypothetical game, I wonder if this allows for hypothetical airplanes -- like the SPAD 2-holer with motor-cannon I have in one of my short stories.
I think that the designers are allowing airborne cannons to be added to any plane, as well as rockets. That was one of the reasons I did up the Equipment card above. Also, Andrea advised me that with Tripods & Triplanes, it isn't necessary to fire the MG first to hit, only if you want the Aim bonus, and that there won't be an ammo limit imposed.

I would like to install a big red button for my impossibility drive . . .
This is brilliant.
Might this be funded by Kickstarter? It strikes me as a concept that the wider community there might get behind.

Side-firing is a non-starter on those; the F-mount would be limited to 1. Given how slow the bombers are, forget it.
No, the SPAD 2-seater I came up with is a little odd as to the crew layout. In reality, the 1-seat cannon-armed SPAD didn't work due to the cannon breech protruding into the cockpit, forcing some very odd control designs onto the pilot. The Russians tried to put a cannon in the nose of that A.2 abomination the French fobbed off on them, but that didn't work either. So what I ginned up was a conventional-appearing 2-seater, but with the pilot in the back seat. The front seat has the gunner, both for the cannon, and a ring-mount MG (no, they cannot be worked at once; they aren't supposed to be; however, the MG can be locked forward and fired, as it clears the prop arc). One of the other problems of the motor-cannon was fumes in the cockpit when the breech was opened; I have the gunner's position designed so that ram-air is used to keep it at higher pressure than the air outside the fuselage, with some vents in the underside of the position; when the cannon is fired, the air pressure rams the fumes out through the vents (granted, every time the cannon fires, it looks like the airplane's engine has blown, but those are the breaks).
Latest game, with awesome damage.
From the 'draft rules' box scenario: one medium tripod, and consecutively appearing N.16s (first plane with the Itchy Trigger Finger Ace Skill, the second plane with the Sniper Ace Skill). I left the first burning wreck on the mat for effect.
My second Nieuport 16 unloaded both rocket tokens as the tripod unleashed its Heat-ray.
Again, in the Tripods & Triplanes rules, Explosion cards equal half max damage rating, so we both survived this. Although, my plane was a bit more damaged than the tripod. I had 5 points left, the tripod could have had 9, if the second card was a zero, which it turned out to be. The Earthlings weren't as lucky as in the first game.
The Martians won this game, reaching three objective tokens and getting off the Earthling side of the mat. I lost my first N.16 before I could fire my rockets, and my second plane was Heat-ray'ed and Black Smoked to near destruction (one damage point left).
There are three objective tokens (home-made) visible on the mat, and part of one of the Black Smoke templates (bottom right, also home made) visible in the image.
And this exchange of shots, that didn't work out as well as it looks. I hit a shield. Using the Sniper Ace Skill granted to this pilot in the scenario, I chose to give the tripod the Explosion card, not the "1" card. The face-down card was the second damage card from the short ranged shot. The Explosion wiped out all the tripod's energy, but I didn't do any damage to the tripod with that. The second card didn't do enough damage to take out the tripod, either (Note: I'm waiting for the designer decision on whether the second card would do any damage at all, as the total damage was possibly against a live shield.). That green and black swirly thing under my plane was another home-made Black Smoke template. The corrosion damage from it hurt my already fried plane, and narrowed my survival margin even more.
PS: This game was against a new player that showed up at Games & Grounds for the first game on Thursday night. This was Andrew's third game ever, with a warm-up, one-vs-one Wings of Glory game just before this play-test. Andrew burnt up and shot down my Fokker Dr.1 using a Sopwith Camel. He hadn't seen, nor played, either plane before. He demonstrated an excellent grasp of the mechanics of the game and characteristics of his plane. Going into the Tripods & Triplanes game, he followed up with another challenging game, out-maneuvering me quite a few times, and using his available weapons very effectively, despite all my dodging and maneuvering.

Is there any sense of how big the tripods will be, Mike? The article Andrea posted mentions three types eventually, and the 3-D computer designed picture of the 'pod looks pretty nifty (if a little busy).
The card counter aliens are small (understandably), and the iphone stand tripod gives a sense of potential size...just wondering if anything has been leaked about model size when all's said and done.
I am looking forward to developments in the game - it should be a great variation on a theme as well as a 'draw' to get potential new players. Karl's (Jager) Dragon Hunt scenario at Origins this last year was a sell-out and had lots of people standing around watching.
Thanks for sharing your play-testing progress - it's whetting my appetite!
All the best,
Matt
Two games with the Tripods, with either side winning one game each.
The paper/cardboard stands are not working for the play-testers, so something had to be done. Also, I wanted to try out some of the other "clear" labels I had acquired for labeling Aerodrome plane stands, and had already taken the step of getting some Plexiglas scraps from a local plastics store.
Here's the results:
What's the big difference? They are now transparent, and you can actually place the stands on the maneuver cards accurately, not guess.
This also shows my attempt to get a good top-down effect for AARs and Skype games. Things are starting to look really good with this prototype.
Oh, and Andrea has said the tripods will be taller, but no indication on how big.
I'm pinging a local acquaintance that has a 3D printer, to get some real tripods made, too.
No! I'm not obsessed with this off-shoot game. Why do you ask?

That looks like the makings of a great expansion to WOG.
Thanks for sharing this, Mike.
With your skills I think Andrea has the perfect play-tester.
Rep Incoming (on a heat ray)
Nice clear stands Mike! Having had a chance to play both plane and tripod, I can say it seems fairly balanced. The second game could have gone either way which is why I decided for the non combat win, instead of getting destroyed by some puny machine gun bullets.
If anyone gets a chance to play this variant, do so. Being a tripod is pretty stellar, so long as you dont stumble.
Well this is SO exciting! The elves have been drawn away from the ball games!!!! Keep up the awesome work!
Play testing anyone?
It would really be nice if Andrea could join in, and help with the Tripod side of the battle, as he has the maneuver decks needed for them.

I definitely would if I was home.
Next time ....
How does the Kaiserreich fit into this SiFi game?
Is there a possibility of cooperation between the Entente and the Central Powers?

Nice.
...how do the Martians react to mustard gas?
Voilŕ le soleil d'Austerlitz!
Despite the attempt by the Martians to wreck our communications on Sunday night ( Mikes Skype didnt work and when we got onto Hangout the line was appalling) Mike went through the rules and I must say it has the potential to be a neat little game. Better luck this week , but dont tell the Tripods !!!!
I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing
Next time you play, have this playing in the background!

Could be a great way to get the uncommitted into the game by a 'back door' route. And it looks way cool.
See you on the Dark Side......
I realise Ares is focusing on other releases first (like BoB), but have there been any updates on T&T? I'm primarily wondering if any potential aircraft models have been decided for the starter set, and any idea on a possible release date?
Thanks! Happy holidays!
guess we will be waiting even longer for series 3 reprints then....
These are parallel projects, until we arrive to the material production (that is just a small part of the time needed). Series 3 reprint is a far easier project. I think that it will come after Bob and before Triplanes & Tripods.
Makes a lot of sense: both BoB & the series 3 reprint are a generalized market; T & T is very much a niche market.Originally Posted by Angiolillo
Quite excited by this, could be a bit marmite for some but will have my War of the Worlds soundtrack on standby
Listening to Bowie and wondering if the Spiders from Mars are getting closer . . .
What about cloud cover? Can the tripods see into cloud cover? Otherwise the planes are always spotted coming in. Plus will the tripods have longer ranged weapons? They should considering they are capable of space travel (more advanced). Will ground units (humans) be introduced? Lots of possibilities here.
BTW I think I still have the album (that is a vinyl 33 1/3 record) of Orsen Wells doing TWoTW.
Just checking in ... have there been any updates on how development is coming along, and when it might be published?
Looking for some fresh air here as well . . .
I have an update on the rules, but haven't found the time to print and try them. So, still working on play balance, is my thought.

Good question. Is there a kick starter coming for this?
I'm wondering how acft. mostly armed with 0.30 MGs are going to contend with tripods which were mostly shrugging off artillery rounds....
Well, you see: I've had this problem before -- when I tried putting together the _Space:1889_/_Richthofen's War_ crossover (_Space:1914_?), and discovered there wasn't really any way to have the airplanes seriously damaging the aerial gunboats; they might be able to machine-gun unarmored secondary and tertiary gun mounts, but the main hulls and armored guns would be impervious.
So... It doesn't appear as if you did your play testing very diligently, nor did you do any creative adjustments.
How about 37mm Armor Piercing rounds, or le Prieur rockets? How about overflights and incendiary bombs (or Greek fire)?
If there were flying tanks, there would have been some type of counter-invention by somebody. Gin and Tonic bottles from F.O. Kyte, anyone?
