    In the USA the prop and wings insignia originated after W.W.1 around 1920. The prop and wings is awarded to aviators upon completion of their training. The brass ring or golden version of this insignia can be worn by 20 year veterans of the air corps.

    I have never tasted SR-71 because it is brewed in the U.S.A. by Toppling Goliath Brewing Company, Iowa.

    This beer was brewed to remember Nottingham’s fighter pilot Albert Ball, who gained his Pilot’s Wings 100 years ago. Ball joined the No. 13 Squadron in January 1916 and went on to record 44 victories against Germany. Pilot’s Wings signifies the natural talent, determination and bravery of Albert Ball, and remembers those who flew before, beside and after him. Sadly, for you, Rob, it was only available February to April 2016.

    In 2016 the Tring Brewery have produced a different beer each month to commemorate an aircraft from the de Havilland museum. In December the chosen aircraft was the Comet airliner.

    Some anti-aircraft rocket batteries (called Z-batteries) were deployed to defend British cities in WW2. I believe that the Smog part refers to London, which used to be infamous for its smog (now long gone, thankfully).
