On 25th January 2018 Brisbane’s Newstead Brewing released a golden ale celebrating the achievements of aviator Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. Sir Charles flew a Fokker F.VII/3m aircraft named the Southern Cross from Oakland in California to Eagle Farm Airport in Brisbane in 1928, taking ten days.

    From a Beer Blogger:
The Beer Judge Certification Program defines American Pale Ale as being “pale golden to deep amber, 4.5 – 6.2 percent ABV.” It defines English Pale Ale as being “light yellow to light copper, 3.2 – 3.8 percent ABV.”
So American PAs are "allowed" to be a bit darker and stronger.
From the brewery's press release (same site):
Beautiful deep mahogany in color, Grey Skies offers a pleasant aroma of lemon, orange peel and caramel. Initially bursting with flavors of orange juice and grapefruit, this dark pale ale gives way to hints of peach and subtle toast. A nod to the Northwest weather and the flavors our beer drinkers have come to love, Grey Skies comes in at an approachable 5.1 percent ABV and 45 IBUs.
So in the USA range. Still, I'd have to agree; a contradiction in terms. It's all marketing.

Is the Boeing 747 still the 'Queen of the Skies' or should that title now pass to another aircraft?
