Thread: I Think I've Found The Perfect Beer For This Place...

I am very sorry. It is not a drink at all. It is for use with an e-cigarette. The flavour is described as," A robust black coffee with a swirl of cream & whiskey paired with almond biscuits.". I must be more careful in future.

This drink is beer. It is a brown ale named after the 430 Mk X Avro Lancasters built in Canada during WW2.

The brewery writes," On 9 June 1928 the Southern Cross, a Fokker F.VIIb/3m Trimotor, settled on to the grass of Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Aerodrome, having left Oakland, USA, 10 days earlier. The aircraft flew 11,585km and had been airborne for 84 hours, with refuelling stops in Hawaii and Fiji.

Chuffed with the first ever trans-Pacific flight, the Prime Minister, Stanley Bruce, presented a cheque for £5,000 to the flight crew. Equally pleased the flight’s financial backer Californian, George Hancock, waived any right to recover his substantial investment.

It was Saturday night and hero Australian pilots, Brisbane born Charles Kingsford Smith “Smithy” and Melbourne born Charles Ulm, together with Americans, radio operator James Warner and American navigator and engineer Harry Lyon were thirsty, cashed up and debt free.

It’s not recorded what beer they celebrated their world record breaking flight with, but “Smithy that’s Fokkin’ Good Beer” was heard well in to the night.

Alliance Airlines, flying the width and breadth of Australasia, is the world’s largest operator of Fokker aircraft and proudly commemorates the 90th Anniversary of the Southern Cross’s historic flight with Smithy’s FGB. Cheers!

The Southern Cross is on public display near Brisbane Airport’s International Terminal."

Alcohol kills brain cells, and most people drink to forget. So, this label doesn't make sense to me. I do appreciate the celebrational sentiment, though.

Reminded me of this one Mike.

    The buffalo theory.

A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest. And, when a herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine!

That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers, or in my case a few G and ts.

    Nice theory!

Doesn't work with Brandy, I'm afraid.

There is no sign whatsoever of my brain becoming faster and/or more efficient, no matter how many Brandies I consume

Perhaps I just need to try a bit harder...............

Considering how long this thread is, I apologize in advance if this has already been posted before, but it fits with the above.

Mental acuity and alcohol are not a best mix.

The next centenary special brew from the Mighty Oak brewery featured the Martinsyde Elephant. Originally designed as a long range escort fighters, they found more success as a bomber and they performed valuable service in the Middle Eastern theatre. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martinsyde_G.100

Ok, I have refrained for long enough! You all for years have found cool and enticing brews, which I am impressed and enamored by, BUT I want some of these! I look every time I go shopping, but can I find anything like these? NO WAY! EVEN AN EMPTY BOTTLE would suffice! Oh well, the flying carrot Lyslander is just too cool! Keep up the great work, I will keep searching for the Lancasters, Spits, Lysanders and such. : )

I looked today on the internet, David, and there are many breweries in Arizona but they do not seem to go in for aviation themed beers. The nearest I have found is this from the Thunder Canyon Brewstillery in Tucson. Perhaps you might be able to obtain a can and report on what it tastes like.

No doubt. Sadly, many, if not most, good locals beers just don't travel, esp. across the Pond.
I discovered on my trip last year a fondness for many of your brews, as well as the serving style.
