Default MOAB 2016 Sydney Sat 1st October to Mon 3rd October 2016

Anyone thinking of going to MOAB this year?

    http://www.sutherlandshiregamers.org/MOAB-Events/

I see there will be a Wings of Glory (WGF) participation game on the Monday run by Steve Webb. I have posted a message asking if they have room for more over the weekend. Might be a good time to get the Australian crew together.

Sadly Carl I have a prior commitment with the Antique Tractor & Machinery Assn at Araluen that weekend.
Chris Halverson usually goes up for at least one day.

I have been in touch with the organizers and they have offered me space to run Wings of Glory over the entire weekend. I am putting a submission together tonight.

WGF, WGS, or both? The Abcot inn nearby has 3 nights accommodation for just under $500...

The organisers have not specified, they want me to submit a proposal.

I was thinking about polling the Australian members of the forum to see what they would prefer, particularly the NSW/ACT flights.

I have submitted the proposal to the MOAB organisers to run some Wings of Glory WW2, I'll let you know the result.

Wings of Glory WW2 is good to go for MOAB 2016. I received approval today to run eight participation game sessions over Saturday 01/10/2016 and Sunday 02/10/2016. On Saturday players can fly a series of missions set in the opening stages of the North African and Syrian Campaigns from 1940-41 choosing from Australian, Italian and German aircraft. These missions will culminate in a Luftwaffe Stuka raid on Tobruk. On Sunday the action will move to the South West Pacific where players can recreate the desperate battles fought by Allied and Japanese forces in the skies over New Guinea and Northern Australia in 1942-43. The final battle will see Spitfires of 1 Fighter Wing RAAF defend Darwin against Japanese Betty bombers and their Mitsubishi Zero escorts.

The proposed mission timetable is as follows:

    Saturday 01 OCT 2016
    0830-0900 - Player orientation
0900-1100 – North Africa Mission 1 (RAAF vs Regia Aeronautica)
1100-1300 – North Africa Mission 2 (RAAF vs Regia Aeronautica)
1300-1500 – North Africa Mission 3 (RAAF vs Vichy French)
1500-1700 – North Africa Mission 4 (RAAF vs Luftwaffe)

    Sunday 02 OCT 2016
    0830-0900 - Player orientation
0900-1100 – South West Pacific Mission 1 (RAAF vs JNAF)
1100-1300 – South West Pacific Mission 2 (RAAF & USAAF vs JNAF)
1300-1500 – South West Pacific Mission 3 (RAAF vs JAAF)
1500-1700 – South West Pacific Mission 4 (RAAF vs JNAF)

I will have sufficient aircraft for up to ten players each session, but if any players wish to bring their own aircraft please feel free.

The MOAB website is being updated tomorrow 29/07/2016 with the new information, check here - http://www.sutherlandshiregamers.org...or-activities/

I will post more details about each mission in the coming weeks.

Since we have unofficial aircraft such as the Betty in, can I assume A-20s (vichy) Bostons etc are ok? Boomerangs? Ki27s? A5Ms? Hayabusas? Any Dutch, Buffalos, Hawks?

Unofficial aircraft will certainly be present on the map. I am writing up the scenarios this week and will share them on this thread. For North Africa I am using historical engagements involving No.3 Sqn RAAF and in the Pacific it will start in New Guinea with the '44 Days' of 75 Sqn RAAF in Port Moresby, then touch on the action around Milne Bay before moving to Darwin.

Where possible I will field Ares aircraft, but with the limited range currently available it will be necessary to use some types yet to be produced. For each scenario I will list the unofficial aircraft types and stats that can be included in the ORBAT.

There will also likely be opportunities to run games in addition to the scheduled missions, so bring your favourite WGS planes along and we will get them on the table.

So some P-39s/P-400s would not go astray, I assume. I prefer historical battles, so if that means leaving out my favourite aircraft, so be it. OTOH it often means we have to resort to non-official aircraft. Good call IMHO.

Bring them anyway Zoe. If there is a demand we can always start another table.

BTW MOAB has a 'bring and buy' policy where you can bring gaming supplies and sell them to punters as long as MOAB gets a tithe (and yes it it actually 10%).

I will bring down some Japanese aircraft from the shops up here in Brisbane and will consider buying some more miniatures from Keith.

If the Battle of Britain starter and aircraft releases had been available that early I would have gone that route (sigh).

Annoyingly, it looks like I probably can't make it. X fingers that circumstances change.

    ABORT, ABORT, ABORT!!!!

Apologies but work circumstances have made it impossible for me to attend MOAB as planned. I will be performing higher duties for three months, not an offer I can refuse. On the bright side it will mean I will have a plenty of leave up by January 2017 so a Cancon trip is highly likely!

For anyone going to MOAB WGF is still running on the Monday. Have a great time and please post some AARs.

Will be great to have you at Cancon as Chris & I both intend to be there.
