Default AAR - Action over the Adriatic at Ace Comics Annerley

This Saturday Whiskysierra (Wayne) and I got together at a local games shop Ace Comics Annerley for a WGF session. We recruited a couple of other players - Paul from Emperors' Legions (a shop stocking WG co-located with Ace Comics) and customer Rod.

The first game was one of my Italian Front scenarios WGF IF04 Action over the Adriatic - http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...-or-3-players). Paul, Wayne and I drew chits for aircraft. Wayne drew the Entente chit giving him the DH.4 and leaving Paul and I to take the two Austro-Hungarian Aviatik D.I scouts.

The DH.4 (Wayne) patrolling over the Adriatic Sea is spotted by the A-H pilots Julius Arigi (Linke-Crawford plane flown by me) and Bela Marcourek (Turek plane flown by Paul).

The RAF two-seater sees the threat and turns towards the enemy, catching me out as Wayne's DH.4 gives my Aviatik a quick burst from his synchronised Vickers.

I put some distance between my Aviatik and the DH.4 as Paul's scout passes below me having dived to altitude 3.

I performed an Immelmann and again came head to head with Wayne's DH.4. It was here my pilot received a wound '1' card. I considered him only lightly wounded so stayed in the fight. I found out later my return fire had little effect (2 x 1 damage).

I should have immediately dived after my attack but instead kept at the same level and wore a burst from Wayne's rear twin Lewis guns for my negligence. This time I sustained engine damage - cards were not kind. I should have gone off to find the better part of valour but I did not want to abandon Paul.

I decided to come around wide and wait for Paul to get into position...

Eventually we were almost on Wayne's DH.4 with me high and Paul coming in low.

But Wayne proved a slippery sucker as he used the DH.4s high turn of speed to get by both of us.

At one point I fired a long range burst that wounded the DH.4's observer. I was hoping Paul's aircraft could help me out but he was still too far back.

Paul is closing but still not close enough to fire...

whilst I ended up over the top of the DH.4 and stayed there for a good three turns - one....

and three. On the last move I had to play a stall due to engine damage and took the face full of lead from Wayne's twin Lewis guns another pilot wound. I fired back but did not achieve much.

Having copped some big hits my Aviatik went down with a busted engine and a dead pilot at the controls - and my wingman had yet to fire a shot!

On the next move Paul's Aviatik finally closed with Wayne's DH.4 finally shooting it down with two cards. The end damage demonstrated the cards did not fall my way - I did less with four cards than Paul did with his two.

The damage to Paul's Aviatik was marginal - all part of his cunning plan (or so he said!).

The lads had a great time and we soon had our second game running - To Catch a Caproni - this time with customer Rod standing in for Paul.

I think I see Paul's tactics there. Let you two chaps run yourselves ragged blowing lumps out of each other then slip in for the glory shot... well done Paul !

Whiskysierra is posting that one. I drew the chit to play the bomber, which was quite hairy!!
