We've finally decided to take a crack at the Knights of the Air campaign here at our club in the Shenandoah Valley. Now watch the game master (me) screw it up....
Mission 1 (Battle above the trenches)
Our first sortie was used to determine the aggressors, who will have the initiative and choose the next mission from the list. Firepower on each side was roughly equal with the Germans put up a pair of Fokker monoplanes and one Roland C.II two seater.
The Allies flew two DH-2 and two Sopwith triplanes, the extra allied airplane being more than balanced out by the fearsome Roland with its second machine gun and near 360 degree arc of fire.
Honors were almost even with both Fokkers being shot down and the Roland driven off for the cost of one DH-2 and one triplane destroyed. One Sopwith flown by Lt. Cdr. John Hagen RNAS was heavily damaged and despite being wounded himself, the pilot was able to bring it safely back to base.
Everyone enjoyed the game and we are looking forward to continuing the thud & blunder next week!
