Default What's On Your Workbench: June 2016 Edition

As we head into June 2016 my workshop has two WGF aircraft in for attention. The Nieuport Ni.28 as pictured which is receiving OFC: Oil Flying Corps roundels and which is also nearing completion.

However yesterday it was joined by a Sopwith Snipe which required a new set of wheels and which will also be transformed into an OFC machine.

Confirmation also received that two Dewoitine D.520s I picked up just recently from Spirit Games (Burton on Trent) will emerge carrying German identities ...

As I'm still Mumsitting most of the time, and waiting on the hospital for ideas where things go next with my hands etc, I'm sticking to tasks that have undo buttons.
So still trying to work out easier ways to throw maneuver decks together, while making 3d models of planes.

Steve I hope the news from the hospital about your hands is favourable. Hope to see you back in action too.

Just added two updated photos to my initial posting for June 2016 ... Sorry about the upside down one. My camera popped back into Southern Hemisphere mode there I think and I cannot turn the picture up the right way!

UPDATE: Nieuport Ni.28 #21 of the OFC: Oil Flying Corps now awaiting coat of varnish having now been fully decalled.

Getting the last of the Origins stuff done: tanks, trucks and planes. Oh, and sorting the existing collection into trays in anticipation of the WGS series 6 and the WGF series 9 releases.

Since my last two pics the decision was taken to abandon the OFC Snipe idea and use this aircraft to practice painting with as it came without undercarriage. Look what we have to offer up instead though ...

On the WGF Front (pardon pun!) there is the almost completed transformation of a red Fokker DR.I into the green aircraft which I believe may have been flown by Sergei Witte. Fokker DR.Is are so hard to come by unless you are willing to pay stupendously inflated prices like the £90.00 C****** B**** is offering on E-Bay for the LvR Edition ... Or like I have done visit my new far more customer-friendly FLGS and buy up their small fleet of MvR Fokker DR.Is and paint them myself for a fraction of that price? OK the green is simple to begin with but I have only ever repainted the Nieuport Ni.28 successfully - also being the reason for the Snipe being relegated back to Practice Airframe! The next Fokker DR.I am planning will hopefully be a black one. Off picture there is an Albatros D.Va which is awaiting my attention for turning into a captured example which is required by my Circuits and Bumps II (WW1) storyline now that FOD has arrived at Boscombe Down. But with only one black and white picture to go off (see thread) perfecting this repaint will take some time I am sure.

Back into the Wonderful World of WGS now and we have a Dewoitine D.520C being transformed into a Luftwaffe example. There are two of these in total and they will both emerge from works carrying the same livery enabling them to operate as a pair.

Great carrier there, Neil - what scale is she? We need a picture of all your Japanese targets together sometime... Are you planning on a "full-sized' Clipper version in the future?

    All the best,

That is a 1/200 scale IJN Hosho. Deck is 74.5 feet wide and I think 520(ish) long. It was the smallest carrier deck wise I could have a 1 piece ship. Thinking of a Ryujo next.

For a bit of fun ... Here goes:

POLL: Should I paint a P-40E Warhawk (Hill Edition) in the colours of Jude Law's P-40E from Sky Captain and The World Of Tomorrow? Can get aircraft very easily as well as reproduce the h11o-d and wing decals required.

Yes - It beats the living daylights out of painting another OFC aircraft ...

No - Terrible film and a waste of an OOP ...

Maybe - Nobody has ever done this repaint before and it would be a better party piece at events / conventions than XH560!

You could always buy one of my P-40Es from Shapeways, that way you're not overpainting.

Steve ... This sounds like you have beaten me to it. Hunted high and low on here but couldn't see Jude Law's P-40 mentioned or painted anywhere so I thought on that basis that this was going to be a first.

I think I will still go ahead but buy one from you too just in case: Reminds me of one of the funniest one-liners from this film which comes from Frankie (Angelina Jolie) when she first sets eyes on Polly (Gwyneth Paltrow) ...

    What ... Is that?

Wow, Neil - you've some mad skills there, man! She looks great at that size! I thought it was one of your smaller Taranto-scale models...
More kudos to you...did you use foam core like Clipper does, or is it some other material?

Keep up the great inspirational work!

    All the best,
    Matt

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japane...%C5%8Dsh%C5%8D -- this would be the post-1924 version, but before the deck was lengthened in '44?

Also: I don't think _Hosho_ ever operated D3As -- they needed a bigger deck.

Yes you are quite correct. However it is not an exact replica of Hosho as it was cobbled together from my mind, with Hosho in mind, from scraps of foam board; and the Vals are there for scale it is awaiting it's compliment of Claudes and Nates which are in the process of being painted now. Patience my dear chap, patience.

Witte's Fokker DR.I was released as eligible for action today - June 8th 2016. I will deploy it within the next two days - possibly against a Macchi M.5 as these are proving to be too much for the Albatros D.II to handle!

Captured Albatros D.VA Boscombe Down has entered works for transformation as based on this photo:

I use brown-violet for many things. Great color indeed! The plane on the left has some lighter green dry brushing. I like the dirtier look. Not sure yet what I'll do to the other one. Probably try to get some metal showing through the worn paint.

I'll get some photos of the finished planes in the P-38 thread. Most likely won't happen till after Origins.

    Default Two Story Out-House!

I saw this kit at our local Gaming convention and could not pass it up. It was a short build, I knocked it off in one evening. It's for that 28mm Cowboy game Desperado I've been working on in between Wings. I think I might add two small signs to it, one for the bottom reading "Employees" and one on the top that reads "Management"!!
