Thread: WGS NOR01 - Norwegian Gladiator

  1. #1

Default WGS NOR01 - Norwegian Gladiator

On 9 April 1940 the Norwegian Jagevingen based at Fornebu, Oslo, with seven serviceable Gloster Gladiator Mik.II biplane fighters were called upon to oppose the might of the Luftwaffe's Fliegerkorps X numbering hundreds of modern fighters and bombers. In this historical scenario Lt. Dag Krohn's Norwegian Gladiator attacks a Heinkel He-111 escorted by a twin-engine Messerschmitt Bf-110 'Zerstörer' as the Luftwaffe aircraft cross the coast of Norway.

Norwegian Gladiator can be played by 1-3 players or as a solo mission, download here http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/dow...o=file&id=2292, preview below.

    Nice Scenario, Carl.

I like the historical backgrund and it's a challenging mission for the Norwegian side.

I like the idea of Norwegian scenario - I am a proud owner of Krohn's Gladiator
But...isn't it too many Germans? We played the scenario with one He.111 and three Gladiators during Prague Con '14 and even this setup was on the edge of balance...
But I understand the historical accuracy reasons

It is a big ask for the Gladiator. In this historical scenario Lt. Krohn was credited with the He-111 and the Bf-110 (they actually dug that wreck up).

Then cloud cover played a big role in this engagement, I will try and use it to good advantage.

I am going to play it out as a solitaire game this week and will post the AAR.

In Prague the Gladiators had a hard time.

We tried it with the aim rule for gunners and all "battle stations" of the He.111.

Both He.111 bombed their target and returend to base.

Daniel - 2014 was an excellent Con, too. Good memories.

Carl - maybe it makes sense to add a second Gladiator and disable aim for He.111 gunners.

    Good luck for the mission.

Sven, I wonder how's possible that you remember this mission. It is two years ago!

I do not remember that particular mission in Prague ( Sven), but in this scenariothe chances are against the Gladiator

This I will look forward to reading as I too will play this Mission out over the next week. I can resource this - in fact Krohn's Gloster Gladiator was the first Wings of Glory I ever laid my hands upon. Been treasured ever since but this will be the first shots that it has ever fired in anger.

Based at Oslo \ FBU ... I used to fly there with TNT Airways from Liege in Belgium!
