Andy I'll get onto this tonight is this a Z class German destroyer? Or Lebrecht Mass class?

It is exactly Z-32 destroyer, Neil.
The combatants reported they had faced a strong, deadly AA fire fighting the vessel.
    Thanks in advance.

    Andy,

We had a similar problem when we had a USN DD on the table. I neutered it so that the game didn't evolve into OGRE-GEV.

Gave thought to allowing Zeroes to strafe gun positions... Not sure if those tactics ever existed, or just send in the dive bombers, hope for the best and head home.

Chaps, thanks very much for your initial thoughts. I made a little mistake, due to an article in our military press. It should have been Z-33, not Z-32. Arghhhh...

    Her armament was as follows:

Don't think the Kriegsmarine had proximity fuzes, so you can probably leave the the big guns out against dive bombing or low altitude bombing (skipping?)

Right Allen, I shall evaluate the AA fire on my own with a little help from our friends, mostly to even the scenario chances.

Z33 was fitted with the original configuration of:

    5 - 150mm guns.
1 double turret( at 97 tons very heavy; sea going capabiliy reduced)
    3 single

    2 - 37mm/83 M42 (Czech semi automatic) double mount
10 20mm C38 (Czech semi automatic) single mount

    8 - 533mm TT

In April 1945 Z33 and Z34 received AA guns from the foundered Lutzow

    4 - 40mm/70 Bofors 28 (fully automatic) single
    2 - 37mm/83 M42 (fully automatic) double mount
4 - 20mm C38M (navy version of the army quad 20mm AA) quad mount
    4 - 20mm M44 (fully automatic) 2 double mounts

I would imagine that the common practice of replacing the older Czech guns was still common place and the 1945 mount was it's final AA configuration.

None of the German destroyers had fire control radar systems.

All German destroyers suffered from a shortage of AA ammunition carried early in the war I am not sure if this was rectified during the later years.

    So pre 1945:
    .......................................................................LONG.....................SHORT
    1 - 37mm/83 M42 double mount (reduce damage)......BA..........................C
    1 - 20mm C38 single mount (reduce damage)............A............................A

    1945:
    40mm/70 Bofors 28 single......................................C........................D
    37mm/83 M42 double mount..................................CC......................DD
    20mm C38M quad mount........................................CC......................CCCC
    20mm M44 double mount........................................C.......................CC

    Hope this helped.

    Neil

37mm/83 M42, 20mm C38M and M44 mount had a range of 2000m due to the tracer burn out for shell self destruct at 5 seconds.
