    I'm working up the cards for the G4M1's above and was wondering what you all think of the firing arcs. They are a lot of work to do, so I thought I would check in and see if anyone had any opinions or information to share. What do you think?

    From the Unofficial Stats Committee (USC) V1.0 'Gunnery Arcs' file:
    Mitsubishi G4M1 Betty:
    Front gun: 10:00 to 2:00, A/A;
    Dorsal gun: 4:00 to 8:00 high only A/A;
    Left waist gun: 7:00 to 10:00 A/A;
    Right waist gun: 2:00 to 5:00 A/A;
    Tail gun: straight line 6:00 high to low C/B.
    The above card follows the info pretty well.

    Not sure what you are doing with the card directly above, but it exceeds the USC G4M1 arcs for the left and right waist positions. Also, you have the arc indicators split, and that shouldn't be done, as it could cause confusion, and needlessly clutters up the card. If you are worried about the fill/shading of the arc being over the plane, I put a separate layer under the plane image with the arc fill there, so as to not obscure the plane image. The firing arc boundary lines and the arc between them are on a layer over the plane image to have them stand out.

    FYI: I have had discussions with members of the USC about overwing arcs of fire. Yes, they did fire at planes over the wings. It was done. However, within the game mechanics of WoG, as well as considering and that waist gunners could hit lower and upper targets, for simplicity, the arcs are limited as between the wings and empennage.

    Also, so that bombers aren't nearly impossible to fight against, IIRC the discussion.

    Hi Mike,

    As you’ve inferred, the shaded area is meant to show firing at any level, and clear area at higher targets only. I got the idea for above wing fire from this post which talked a lot about the Betty;

    https://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sh...ighlight=Betty

    It seemed to make sense to me and everyone seemed in accord with the idea there. I wasn’t aware of the unofficial arcs file. I’ll have to check that out.

    Thanks for your input.

    Dave,
    Looks like I missed that discussion completely. I do note that two members of the USC were contributors to the thread, but did not comment on the firing arcs. The file for Unofficial Planes is, however, dated a year later, and doesn't include overwing firing arcs.

    Your choice, as it is your card. I'd still consider a combined arc with solid boundaries and indicating arc, with a dotted line and no undershading for the overwing area, perhaps.

    FYI:
    In the past, I have brought up historical depictions of firing arcs, like the below image:

    If you look at the "posssible" firing arc depicted, there shouldn't be a 'blindspot' behind a Ju.87, as the empennage isn't big enough to stop a gunner from shooting some part of a tailing plane. For simplicity in game mechanics, we aren't allowed to shoot planes at short range through the empennage, and the same reasoning, AFAIK, is used for overwing shots.
