Quite looking forward to it! Questioning if my 4x6' table is going to be large enough?

In seriousness, though: the upper wing on the Handley Page is longer than the range ruler. The Staaken is more than half again larger. These are big monsters! It definitely feels like Ares's answer to Epic X-Wing. I'm excited to try them out.

EDIT: My only regret is that I didn't get a couple more HP O/400s. It's a lovely plane, and I very much want my Entente forces to be able to conduct their own heavy bomber raids (zee Germans can't have all the fun, after all). The Caproni just never did it for me, not sure why. Glad the O/400 is finally here!

Also, on the subject of bringing down the Staaken: it's "only" 34 hitpoints, just 7 more than the Gotha. I think it will be quite fun to attempt to silence _all_ the guns. I don't expect it will be possible to down them very reliably prior to their delivering their bomb payload, but it might just be able to bring them down before they make it back across the Channel.

And there's always the Kaboom card to hope for

Mine arrived yesterday, 2/2/2016. They were really well boxed and the models and all of the add-ons are a joy to behold. Well done Ares on a very successful Kickstarter!

FYI, some here may recall that I wrote up an AAR regarding a battle involving a Staaken awhile back here: Giants Over London on a Cold February Night in 1918 . I used a balsa Staaken model and the Flight of the Giants rules, and it was quite an enjoyable engagement!

No sign yet of the UPS boxes with my new planes yet, though. Maybe all the recent Colorado snow is throwing things off a bit, but I'm patient (for now) ...

Fooey. Woke up this morning to find a UPS sticker on my door saying they had come by (possibly while I was asleep, or at least still groggy) -- but didn't leave the package because they needed a signature and I didn't answer the door.

What's worse, the note said they wouldn't try to deliver it again until Monday (three days from now), and that I couldn't pick it up from their warehouse in the meantime.

Oh, and even more frustrating, UPS said they would have delivered it yesterday, but (according to them), "the receiver name was incorrect" on the package when the local UPS facility got it, and they had to spend a day trying to correct my address. That doesn't make sense, because I just looked back over the confirmation email Ares sent me saying my package was shipped, and my name and address were fine there!

Now I'm a bit concerned. What do I do if UPS loses part of my shipment? I ordered a bunch of things, and my confidence in everything arriving intact is starting to wane.

    Fooey.

UPDATE to my last post ......

UPS was nice enough to redeliver my packages tonight instead of making me wait until Monday. I just got them. Hooray! However ...

I talked with the driver, and together we examined the shipping label. The packages (sent by Alliance Game Distributors of Indiana) had my street address incorrect by a single number -- but that was enough to screw up the delivery system, and cause a UPS driver to search in vain in an industrial part of town for somebody with my name expecting a shipment. A UPS rep told me they filed it under business packages because of the faulty address, and might have returned everything to the shipper, but fortunately they were able to figure it out somehow and get it to me today.

Also, the driver today admitted he only tried the doorbell and didn't knock on the door. As we have a doorbell that isn't very loud, I understand why my husband (who was likely making breakfast at the time) and I might have missed hearing him ... but I still blame the delivery guy for not knocking! When I delivered pizzas back in college, my boss always told us never to trust doorbells, and to always knock loudly if nobody answered the door. Oh well. Maybe I'll put a sign on the door telling delivery people to do that.

I still haven't taken an inventory of the packages, but hopefully that'll go nice and smoothly ...

Well thats good news then. At least you have them!

I thought I had received the UPS email and was expecting a landing this week but alas it was for something else. So still waiting here on the east coast...

I find it odd that a week and a half ago I received the extra map set I ordered as an extra. Shouldn't it have all been shipped together?

UPS allows you to do just that.
I picked it up on Swan Island on Tuesday.

Right now over here Peter the chaps would be glad to receive the Starter in any order, but yes it does seem silly. Maybe the models are sent from a different storage facility?

*I* didn't even get a notification it had shipped -- just a vague "your order is complete" message. No company name; no tracking number; not a bloody thing.

I don't recall getting a tracking number, either. If I had, I might possibly have at least known ahead of time that UPS was trying (and failing) to deliver it. Well, all's well that ends well, they say ...

I have UPS My Choice which notifies me by email and text when I have a shipment coming.

Comes in handy when I have shipment in transit that will require a signature.

Quick question on our two new models. The O/400 does have a ventral gun beneath it; the Staake R.VI does not correct?

  23. #73

I ordered all four of the bombers, and I just got around to finally opening them to do a full inventory. What I found surprised me ...

    1) One of the HPs had the Allied ace deck, and one of the Zeps had the Entente ace deck. Fortunately, the two misplaced decks cancelled each other out.

    2) One of the Zeps had several drops of a clear liquid (water?) on several different parts of its fuselage and wings. Fortunately it was all wiped off with no damage.

Anybody else experience either of those things? Just wondering. Otherwise, things were perfect, and I'm extremely impressed with the shipment.

Yep, I experienced both those things. Was almost wondering if the mismatch in ace cards to planes was in some way meant to help bring down the Giant? Who knows, most likely a mistake I'm guessing.

If I remember correctly, this is how it was intended to be. Just like Steve said, it helps the other side to handle the Giant.

I don't see how that could be intentional, because that would mean if you bought only one Zep and one HP, you wouldn't know if you would be getting two Entente ace decks, two Alliance ace decks, or one deck of each.

Just to be clear, in the shipment I got, one Zep had an Alliance deck, one Zep had an Entente deck, one HP had an Alliance deck, and one HP had an Entente deck.

By the way, when you said you experienced both things, did you mean one of your planes also had drops of water on it?

I could help you put the RSJ you may require in once you have knocked-through ... Plus a relative of mine could put a new floor down for you now I come to think about it!

All I would ask for in return is a game involving the Giants

Haven't looked on Ares website today but a few days ago it stated a US releasedate (18/2) but nothing for the rest if the world

Strange about the Ace cards. I won't know for a while. Two weeks ago I received the extra map set I ordered, nothing else. I patiently waited but finally emailed ARES Tuesday. The warehouse messed up the order and they said will ship asap, 2-3 weeks. When they do arrive I will immediately check in on the Ace cards!

How are the regular editions going to be different from the Kickstarter editions (besides the box and authenticity certificate)? Will the regular editions also have ace cards and play maps, for example? Just wondering ...

I'm looking for more data than I have on the Giants of the Sky. More descriptive information, if available, on the planes and pilots, as well as the maneuver and damage decks used for each Giant would really be helpful as I try to get the Current Contents file updated to include this latest release. What I have gleaned is as follows:
    WGF303A Handley Page 0/400 207 Squadron RAF
    WGF303B Handley Page 0/400 RNAS
WGF304A Zeppelin Staaken R.VI Hauptmann Arthur Schoeller
WGF 304B Zeppelin Staaken R.VI Hauptmann Erich Schilling
If anyone has any more info from the actual models, particularly the maneuver and damage deck info, please either PM me or post, and I'll get the file updated this weekend......thanks!

As far as FotG went, with the O/400 there was a rule to allow one of the two rear guns to be moved to a ventral hatch under the tail as was the case with the original. The Staaken had special rules for the two upper gun positions.
I suspect that this still exists on the special rules sheet that comes with the new models.

For the rest of the world guys please see the latest update from Ares on their website click on the box for the giants of the sky it is still maybe, could be, perhaps sent out from Monday to Wednesday. Although the guys on the states should have their rewards and that the stores will be able to sell retail from the 18th. Their official line is that depending on the territory that you live kickstart backers should receive their rewards 2-3 weeks before retail not sure that is the case given some of the entries in this thread. On their facebook page the official line for those in the rest of the world quit bitching about delivery!!! you will still get before retail.
Of course for us backers given feedback from the states there may still be problems with the wrong models being delivered, not getting the rest of the rewards etc I presume in the case of wrong model they will expect us to pay to return it to them for exchange. However given at the end of the year they sent an e-mail to backers about one of the 0/400 models being in short supply as most people chose the one with the red engines that may not be as easy as that.

I'm sorry John but they have had our orders the best part of a year now. From that they could anticipate demand. I for one would like to receive what I ordered not what is left in the barn so to speak.

Even though I have been calm about the delays and willing to wait I can only surmise what this will do for future kickstarter projects put forward.

In a bit of an awkward space because I've the good fortune of living in the U.S. and have my GIANTS in hand... but I can't help but agree with Neil. Though KS campaigns have displayed a disappointing tendency to miss deadlines, this shouldn't have come as a surprise to Ares.

If you set deadlines, meet them. If you don't think you can, then don't. I understand and value communication between company and consumer, but this has to be frustrating for those who fronted capital and have yet to receive their product.

    Just sayin'.

What is "amusing" (and I think this has been mentioned on this forum previously) is that the delivery date as originally stated was purposefully set a few months AFTER the date when Ares were confident the models would be available for distribution so as to make sure the date was met.

One of my university lecturers was famed for his emphasis upon Nothing Ever Goes According To Plan ... As seen since then with both the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380 in the aerospace industry!

Ares Games have made themselves look like they couldn't handle a f**k up in a sex shop with this sort of ineptitude. But jokes aside because for us the customer who pay their salaries what this all results in is anger and frustration. I know from matters in the airline industry how difficult it is to forecast accurately but to miss deadlines completely especially having moved them to everyone's disappointment already clearly smacks of ineptitude. I'm waiting to see how much we get cocked around over the so called scheduled June release date for WGS Series 6 ... Which will probably appear on the basis of that information whenever there is next a Total Eclipse!

Don't get me wrong here I am grateful for the way Ares Games supports us in terms of WGF and WGS ... But the way they go about doing so and the adverse feeling this creates both need to be worked upon. In fact come to mention it when I cracked the first B = Boeing 787 Dreadliner joke during a ground school session in 2009 this soon found itself in circulation worldwide about the nightmarish Boeing 787 Dreamliner delays. We should think one up about Ares Games and their projected release dates like Ares Dreams ...
