Thread: Pointless Anagrams

  1. #1

    Default Pointless Anagrams

    In one round of the BBC quiz show Pointless the contestants had to solve these anagrams of British W.W.2 aircraft names. I thought that members here might like to try them.

    1) Raunchier;
    2) Gold Tiara;
    3) Quits Moo;
    4) Ripe Fist;
    5) A Radar Cub.

    I will post the answers here in a few days, if no-one solves them but I am expecting you all to get them very quickly.

    These are now correct.

    Very sorry, number 5 was incorrect. I misread my own writing. It should be

    5) A Radar Cub.

    I think that you will be able to solve it now.

    Doh Saw this pointless as well so disqualifying myself. Nevertheless a good game ( or was that Brucie's line )

    Wish I knew more about WWII planes. Took some research, but got them all.

    Yup, doddle. One of my favourite WW2 aircraft, my brother made me a rather lovely 1/72 model of one.

    All five in 10 minutes. Struggled most with Number 2

    If you have not worked them out yet, the answers were:

    1) Hurricane;
    2) Gladiator;
    3) Mosquito;
    4) Spitfire;
    5) Barracuda.

    Default Five more ...

    Amazed no Clan Stare around given how there was a Raunchier and Ripe Fist to fly alongside one. Barracuda IMHO is the most obscure one of those five fighter names although I attempted Number 2 last - Gladiator.

    Definitely no Tech All aircraft around to escort the slower Adultness aircraft! Or a Night Ling ... Four more to keep this thread going - actually throw in Ever Nag to make it five

    That could be because your last four were American aircraft, Barney.

    Yes but with three of them being Royal Navy FAA operated and the exception I have seen one photo of in my time wearing British markings. Not sure if those ever went into full-time RAF service however despite this photo ...

    Anyway we can still have a crack at them - regrettably I cannot give any further clues or spoilers

    Gordon Bennett! Next door to here has just spent three hours sounding like a total train wreck was happening in there! It's died down now so maybe I will get some sleep after all - it is 05:00
