    Default Help rank these Ace Skills

    I am tweaking how the Ace Skill system works in the new revision of Knights of the Air and could use your help. Please help me rate these Ace Skills by ranking them from least (0) to most (10) useful. Please be careful and ensure each skill has a rating and that you rate each skill with a different number. Once you have rated them all, each skill should have a number 0-10, with no two skills having the same number.

    I will then be able to average the points for each skill and give them an overall ranking.

    That was a fun poll to complete. Thanks Col.

    I am currently designing my own campaign which have been heavily influenced by your excellent KoTA rules.

    I am using only six Ace abilities. I renamed a few of them to sound cooler than the WoW rulebook. "Evasive" doesn't sound like a bad-a$$ Ace pilot...

    Glad you liked ti Bartman. I'll be adding the same poll for my level II skills next week. Some of the really good level I's have lesser level II effects and vice-versa. I can then get a true feeling of how powerful each of these skills are.

    Colonel, Sir, please change the skills Technical Eye I rating to 7 from 8 and Lucky Git I to 5 from 6 in my voting. I missed them upon my review before submitting my poll votes. Apologies.

    Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm starting to formulate how to assign a points value to each of these.

    I took the average sum of each skill from your votes. I then multiplied those numbers by 10, rounding up and came up with base point costs for each of the skills:

    74 - Acrobatic Pilot
    58 - Daredevil
    32 - Evasive Maneuvers.
    62 - Exceptional Pilot
    69 - Deadly Aim
    78 - Dedicated Ground Crew
    71 - Lucky Git
    77 - Marksman
    46 - Quick Shot
    38 - Technical Eye
    25 - Trench Runner

    These numbers were obviously to big and to largely dispersed to be used as is.
    Referencing the pilot points that have been earned in over the last two running of Knights of the Air, I determined that about 25 pilot points is where most people made Ace (5 kills). Using this as a reference mark, I made a scale from 0-100 with 20 levels broken down as:

    0-5
    6-10
    11-15
    16-20
    21-25
    26-30
    31-35
    36-40
    41-45
    46-50
    51-55
    56-60
    61-65
    66-70
    71-75
    76-80
    81-85
    86-90
    91-95
    96-100

    Placing my reference mark at the 46-50 level, I was able to subtract one point for each level below the middle and add one point for each level about that. I then plugged the base point costs from above into those levels and came up with point costs for each skill ranging from a possible 16 to 35 points. Since passive ace skills can be used in conjunction with other skills, I weighted them with an extra point.

    This gave me the final points cost for each Ace Skill I:

    31 - Acrobatic Pilot
    27 - Daredevil
    23 - Evasive Maneuvers.
    29 - Exceptional Pilot
    29 - Deadly Aim
    32 - Dedicated Ground Crew
    30 - Lucky Git
    31 - Marksman
    26 - Quick Shot
    23 - Technical Eye
    21 - Trench Runner

    That worked out pretty well as a pilot with 25 pilot points can pick 3 of the skills or continue to work for a "better" skill.

    For upgrading to a level II skill, I figured it would be easier to advance a current skill then learning a completely new one. As such, I set the cost of the upgrade at 50% of the initial skill (rounded up).

    This gave me the final points cost for each Ace Skill II:

    +16 - Acrobatic Pilot
    +14 - Daredevil
    +12 - Evasive Maneuvers.
    +15 - Exceptional Pilot
    +15 - Deadly Aim
    +16 - Dedicated Ground Crew
    +15 - Lucky Git
    +31 - Marksman
    +13 - Quick Shot
    +12 - Technical Eye
    +11 - Trench Runner

    I think that this has the overall correct "feel" to it as a pilot could reach Trench Runner II (the second level of the least useful skill) just just after another pilot could reach Dedicated Ground Crew I (the most useful skill).

    Anyone see any gaping holes in my logic or math?

    From most important to lest in MHO:

    Exceptional Pilot - First and formost!
    Dedicated Ground Crew - Plane in best shape, less chance of Jams or mecanhical failure.
    Lucky Git - The best are also the luckiest.
    Acrobatic Pilot - To stay on your man.
    Evasive Maneuvers - To get out of a bad spot.
    Deadly Aim - On target!
    Quik shot - Shoot first!
    Marksman - Hit the mark!
    Technical Eye - To spot problems before they get bad.
    Trench Runner - Stay out of the Archy! & Avoid getting shot up from the ground.

    Never mind I happen to think that this is an excellent thread ... Teaching me what Ace Categories there are in WGF and how highly people think of them. Or otherwise.

    Have to say that Lucky Git made me laugh when I first saw it

    Only ever used ace categories in WGS which I play full time once and that was to give the Wife's Wildcat a head start on what I was flying. Will get round to using these properly one day & fully understanding what these are all about ...
