Things do not bode well for the Japanese mainland! That is a big sucker...
And it's lovely, to boot! I, too, look forward to more info on this bad boy

Anyone wanting sets of decals, just let me know.
This was my backup Heavy Bomber Comp entry in case the primary didn't work out. I suspect it would have gotten more votes, but I went for character not beauty on my son's advice. I agree with him.
A Thai Ki-43 flown by Sak Intarapura of Foong Bin 16 managed to fatally damage B-29 42-24452 "Devil May Care" of the 45th Sqdn, 40th BG, before itself succumbing to damage on 27 November 1944.
From a painting in the Royal Thai Airforce museum depicting the action:
And... my own interpretation, based on photos of 45th Sqdn and Foon Bin 16 aircraft in Nov 44.
Ki-43 by AIM, B-29 by AmerCom (same model type as "Untouchable"), same chrome spray/acryllic/homebrew decal method on both Ki43 and B-29.

Excellent, Zoe!
I love your B-29.

As the Pacific Theater is not my area of interest, I had no idea the Thais were allied with the Japanese and flew planes in Thai markings against the Allies...what a cool piece of information/history!
All the best,
Matt
The Japanese "made them an offer they couldn't refuse" by invading them. However, at the same time US B-29s were raiding port facilities in Bangkok, and being ineffectually opposed by a few Thai and rather more Japanese fighters.... Japanese-supplied Thai Ki-21 bombers were ferrying around US OSS agents and supplying Allied troops. Both US OSS and UK SOE agents regularly met Thai government officials, to the exasperation of the occupying Japanese Kempitai.
While the Thais had declared war on the UK, they told the Japanese in December 1941 that the court astrologers had determined that now was not a propitious time to declare war on the US. When asked again in later years, they said "still not right, yet". I think it was in late 1945 that they eventually informed the Japanese that the astrologers had definitely stated that there would never be a propitious time, so sorry. They never did get around to doing it.

Nonetheless, the Thai planes are really cool! Love the brown and green tiger-stripe camo and the red rectangles with white elephants national insignia...
What a cool look for an otherwise mundane color scheme on an Oscar!
Thanks again for opening my eyes to a new aspect of WW2.
All the best,
Matt
