Default Stall Maneuver After Engine Damage

An aircraft with engine damage is required to use one stall card per turn, but is it considered an actual stall (aka a steep maneuver) or does that card simply represent the plane moving more slowly? In other words, can the plane use other steep maneuvers directly before or after using the stall card?

Hmmm... it is engine damage, and represents the loss of power and speed. It is a steep maneuver, regardless of whether it is chosen for tactical reasons or a mandatory maneuver.

So, I would say all the appropriate rules still apply. The use of a stall doesn't negate using other steep maneuvers, it just makes it complicated.

You can plan: a stall, a full turn, and a steep sideslip in one turn, then a straight, a full turn, then the obligatory stall. It just requires the stall to be separated by a non-steep maneuver. The stall can happen at any phase of a turn.

OK. Makes sense. Under normal circumstances a stall maneuver is a steep maneuver so I wondered if that card was representing the same thing when used to reflect engine damage. I guess in an abstract way it would since it would preclude using another steep maneuver either directly before or after it. Thanks.

Please note that the Daredevil Ace Skill would allow the use of two steeps in a row, if your pilot had the skill. Especially useful if he had engine damage.

    Daredevil:
This pilot may perform two steep manoeuvres in succession.
When you execute the second steep manoeuvre take four recovery tokens.

Note: In most Campaign rules, there usually is a morale stipulation that pilots head for home immediately and using the shortest, safe route, if they suffer Engine Special Damage. Due to the loss of power and maneuver options, a pilot with any level of self-preservation should yield the field.

Yes, but one still may want to execute multiple steep maneuvers in trying to escape. It's not so much about "yielding the field" as it is trying to get away from a guy trying to kill you.
