Thread: SE 5A

    Default SE 5A

Flew my first mission in the SE 5A last night in a free for all dogfight, the fisrt confrontation was a head on shoot out against a Camel at short range, I took 9 damage in that one. I carried on to shoot down the Camel but when I took a further 3 and engine damage I thought that discretion was the better part of valour and flew home.

I believe that the flying characteristics of the SE 5A confused my opponents, the next time will be a different kettle of fish.

The fact that he was being attacked by another Brit plane might have confused him as well

I'm glad you followed the well-tried maxim: "He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day"

I'm still trying to figure out the SE5. I've flown it twice recently, and in both cases I wasn't able to fully put the plane through it's paces. First time I was escort to a bombing run and I had three enemy fighters to deal with. I had to play cautious and not get to heavily in the mix with the fighters so I didn't have much real dogfighting. Second time was last night and the game ended quickly as my sons recon plane had his observer killed early on. Again, I didn't get much dogfighting in. I think I'll challenge Hunter to a one on one or two on two just so I can see what the SE5 can really do.

I've only been flying a few weeks but prefer the SE 5A to the Snipe I started with, it seems to suit me better. But my son (11) seems more suited to the Snipe. I just wish he didn't keep getting on my 6. But I'm sure I'll improve as I get more used to the SE 5A and how it handles.

I've used the Se5 twice so far. The 1st was to guard a balloon and the 2nd was to attack an enemy balloon. I feel the Se5 is better suited for attacking an enemy balloon. I was at their balloon before they know what hit them. That is one fast plane. Then using split-S's and Immelmann's to keep my altitude within range of the balloon I made quick work of it. I fly her the same way I fly the Spad. But she's faster. Great plane.

Whenever we fly last man standing, we choose our favourite aircraft so,its no holds barred.

My son is an expert with the Snipe and he's also 11. Unfortunately, he looks to be equally adept at flying the SE5, which is not good news for me!!

    Hi Scott,

It must be their age, but in James case I think it may have more to do with the fact he found and read your Tactical Walk Through notes and kept the intel to himself. I can see now how I was not thinking about the strengths and weaknessess of the planes we use such as limited ability to turn right etc, whilst he was using the Snipe to the max.

I can see now why he spent time looking at the decks, he was working out his tactics.

I cann't wait for him challenge me to a game later today when he has got his homework out of the way and see if I can turn the tables on him. I'm at home today so I've been looking at the decks and working out my tactics.

    Cheers,

Hey Aled. Studying the decks will definitely help with your tactics. With my son, he's very clever on top of being very smart. I never know what he's going to do because he stays unpredictable. He doesn't get into a pattern so I'm never able to truely anticipate what he's going to do next. The fact that he's WAY smarter than me doesn't help matters.

Now that you've had time to prepare, hopefully you'll get the best of him in the next sortie. Us Dad's have to stick together!!

Good luck and be sure to let me know how it goes.

    Scott
