Hi all,
I thought I'd post some pictures of my WoG 'Aschoff' Gothas. Two are repaints. Peter Pig crews added and new decals from 1/144th Direct.
I have two more on the way soon.
Cheers,
Kev

Those look great together! I need to repaint a couple of mine so they look like a unit at conventions.
Nice work Kev - especially for an opening sortie !
They do look superb Kev.
Have you flown them in anger as a flight yet? If so what was the furball like?
Rob.
I don't actually play Wings of War/Glory.
I tried a little solo game using our ruleset and lost one Gotha to 'Archie' and another with slight damage. The fields of fire from several Gothas can be really intimidating to a lone attacker. I used a pair of SE5a's which caused only minor damage.
Friday night I'm hosting a scenario to bomb railway marshalling and rear areas of the British line. Two Brisfits will be on hand at some point, with possibility of a flight of SE5a's and/or Albatros DVa's sticking their noses in. Should be a heck of a lot of fun.
For a non player, I think you have already got a good handle on it by the sound of that Kev.
Please let us know how you get on with the railway scenario, it sounds fun.
Rob.
Will do. Whilst I don't play WoW/G I've been playing WW1 aerial games for about ten years, and been interested in it since I was a nipper.
Here are a couple of pictures of my Gotha.
Rob.
That's really nice. What manufacturer is that Rob?
Rob usually does Skytrex models Kev. nice pics by the way Rob !
Sheesh! He must have the patience of a Saint. Well done sir.
Two more WoG 'Aschoff' Gotha repaints.
I now have five of the beauties....
Skytrex Gotha.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Great paint jobs guys. My cat found out how to pull planes from the cardboard box the shipped in. Cats are smart you know.
What does the cat look like at this point? Elves and cats do not mix, elves make models, cats shred models . . .
A lot of nice Gotha bombers here.
I think I need help . . . just found 3 more in the storage room still in boxes . . . is there a cure?
Got Gothamonia? Clipper looking for a clinic . . .
Jeez. I thought I had it bad but compare to you I'm an amateur. That's an awful lot of expensive planes.
A very nice job of painting and decalling Taybo.
I just hope they are not all heading for Paris.
Rob.
Those do look yummy!
Well, the plane that I've been mentally referring to as "Big Blue" rolled out of the hangar a couple of weeks ago (along with some smaller friends that I'll post about separately), but I haven't had the time to take and post the pics until now.
I bought three Gothas when they first came out, one von Korff and two Aschoffs; recently I've been working through my the planes in my collection (some of which were rather random) and generally sorting them out - duplicates needed to have some kind of identifier added to aid playability - including one of the Aschoff Gothas. Serendipitously I saw some of Flying Helmut's Gotha squadron at the IPMS Avon show, customised with the aid of Mehusla decals. Perfect - I'd used his decals before but simply hadn't noticed that there were Gotha ones available too.
Research time - I spent a while hunting down images and information to choose a plane; I like to have crew details if possible (although it's not essential) when personalising. I was prepared to mix & match decals if needed to create the end result but fortune smiled; I found that Gotha G.IV 405/16 was a likely candidate, commanded by Oberleutnant Hans-Ulrich von Trotha (though I haven't found other crew details) also of Kagohl 3 (same as Aschoff) and already with a set of Mehulsa decals made up. Sold.
So the von Trotha plane was a G.IV, not a G.V. No big deal; the Ares model isn't quite accurate for either of them being a bit of a mixture of the two, and the stats wouldn't be affected either. (The G.V actually had slightly inferior specifications, max altitude in particular, and I feel the official stats are probably closer to G.IV stats, but effectively I'm going to treat them as the same.) The repaint itself wasn't that hard, to be honest. The plane was overwhelmingly light blue hence the nickname. I felt a slight pang of regret at overpainting the lovely lozenge pattern but the G.IVs didn't have it. Aschoff's G.V apparently was one of the first to have the daylight pattern lozenge camo. I'm happy with the end result, and looking forward to getting it into the air.
Comparison with the Aschoff marked G.V.
Custom cards to match.

Very nicely done.
How did you do the custom card ?
An excellent job there Alex.
They certainly benefited greatly from your ministrations.
Rob.

Superb job on that Gotha!
Now I know what to do with some of my spares.
Nice Gotha Darell. I have one duplicate to repaint. Yours is right up there. Where did you get the decals?
Thanks Darell.
Great work Alex and Darell! I may have to pick me up some of those decals.
Lovely Gotha, Darell!
That one is in my "to-do" queue.
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Lovely job! Still bothers me there are no cabane struts on these minis! I have retro-fitted all mine . . . I am definitely going to do this color scheme on my 1/48" scale Gothas, there was a second such color scheme as I recall.
Good Day All! I have to agree about the ARES Gotha, the engine nacelles certainly look G IV and not G V. My Aschoff is a bit warped - don't know if all of the series are or just mine, but it made modification a bit more difficult. As I did with my Caproni, I decided to add missing struts and crew. I also, repainted all struts so I could match the color (I also did not like that original "wall cleaner" green). Here are my photos showing the warp challenge and the finished modification.
